Deep mahogany in colour with a very quick to dissipate tan head, very light patchy lacing. Aroma is quite sweet, lots of chocolate, christmas cake, dark cherries, some molasses and corn syrup. Flavour is sweet, more christmas cake but this times its a little burnt, black cherries. Sweet mouthfeel, medium/light body, moderate carbonation. FInishes with some black forest cake, long.

A couple of years old but this is still pretty much the same as it was fresh. Not bad at all.

341ml bottle purchased at La Trappe a Fromage in Gatineau, Quebec.
Opened on April 11, 2010.
Vintage 2008.

Originally rated January 2008. Bought a 12-pack of Boréale to get this one as a freebie. Later, at a different store, I noticed that you can buy this one as a 4-pack. Come in a single box, and says limited edition. Pours a deep brown-red with a big beige creamy-fluffy head with quite good retention. The lacing left is pretty solid too. Nice red ale malt scent with some decent hop aromas, and some notes of nuts and caramel (toffee). Medium-bodied with a little stick, a little syrupy but not much more. Sweet flavours, but not too strong. Mild plum, roasted malt, caramel, grain and a beautiful soft hoppy finish. Nothing too crazy here, as all Boréale beers, but always right for a comforting night or session.

Bottle. Pours a copper-red body with a soapy white head. Aroma has anise, sugar, dark bread, and butterscotch. The flavour is nutty with misc. spices and dark burnt toastiness. Finishes toasty with some light spice. Pretty good.

Bottle- Deep mahogany liquid sits beneath a frothy, long lasting off white head. Good lace. Nose of candied malts, smoke fire, plum and other dark fruit, a touch of dark rum. Sweet, toasty malt flavour alongside prunes and plums leading into a toffee-esque bitter finish. Nice bite to this one. Good stuff.

341 mL bottle. Dark ruby brown with a small head - just a film in the middle. The aroma contains spices, peach, pear (sweet, ripe fruit, basically), and caramel. Black licorice stands out in the flavour, along with hops, wheat (?), and candied fruit. Quite bitter finish, and body is, on average, medium to full. A complex enough strong ale, but somehow lacking in subtlety.

Bottle from miketd, thanks Mike! Poured a deep brown color with ruby highlights and an inch and a half thick, fluffy beige head that slowly receded to a thin bubbly layer while leaving some spotty lacing. Powerful aroma with hints of toffee, brown sugar, rum, plums, grapes, dried citrus fruit, and an array of spices including cinnamon and anise. Smooth, lightly sweet entry leads into a sweet maltiness with hints of toffee, brown sugar, and biscuit that transitions into a dry, spicy dark fruitiness with hints of plum, grapes, and apple that linger into the finish with some undertones of rum cake. Low carbonation and smooth, slick mouth feel that finishes moderately dry. Overall, the taste couldn’t quite hang with the aroma, but it was still a solid beer if you are looking for a sweet, malty drink. Thanks again Mike.

The color is a dark red with a beige head. The aroma and taste is of a mix of malt, sweet caramel, spicies and raisins and at the end a nice bitter finish. This was a very good one from Boreale I hope they bring it out again next year.

Clear dark rubis red with a dark beige frothy head. Aromas of prunes, chestnuts, licorice, red grapes, pomme granite, sundried raisins, yogourt?... Added apple / grape juice, toffee, chestnut taste. Great balance between sweet and bitterness. Average body and good effervescence.
