Brown bottle, 341 ml, best before March 7 2008, purchased at Le Grand Duc on November 12 2007, savoured on December 21 2007; eye: ruby, clear, good effervescence, good creamy beige head, no lacing; nose: plum, candied fruits, caramelized malt, light hops, light bread, dusty grains; mouth: soft, plum, caramelized malt, liquorice, a bit of hops which becomes more present as a result of the carbonation, nice balance, finale where the liquorice becomes more present with a bit of hops on the side, liqueur-like, creamy texture, medium to full body, light astringency, somewhat more "watery" close to the finale; overall: quite liked FRANÇAIS Bouteille brune, 341 ml, meilleure avant 7 mars 2008, achetée chez Le Grand Duc le 12 novembre 2007, savourée le 22 décembre 2007; œil : rubis, claire, bonne effervescence, bonne mousse crémeuse beige, pas de dentelle; nez : prune, fruits confits, malt caramélisé, léger houblon, léger pain, grains poussiéreux; bouche : tout doux, prune, malt caramélisé, réglisse, un peu de houblon rehaussé par la carbonatation, belle équilibre, finale où la réglisse se dévoile au côté d’un peu d’amertume, un p’tit côté aqueux plus présent en finale, liquoreuse, texture crémeuse, corps moyen-corsé, légère astringence légèrement sucrée, très légèrement houblonnée; en résumé : bien aimée

Bouteille 341 ml.

A dark reddish brown ale with a thick moka head. Pleasant aroma of licorice, ginger, dark fruits, and brown sugar. In mouth, sweet burned caramel with light cloves and licorice, toasted notes, light coffee, and raisins. Medium bodied. One of Boreal’s best. Bought at Jovi, Gatineau, Dec. 2007.

Nice light fruitiness conjures raisins and plums along with a healthy dose of brown sugar and caramel in the aroma. Clear, deep copper coloured body is topped by a decent, fine bubbled tan head that recedes to a lasting cover with some patchy lace. Flavour has plenty of the same fruitiness and sweetness as the nose suggests and is balanced by a light whiff of alcohol and some decent offsetting bitterness. Dry medium body with lightly pointy and long lasting carbonation. Tulip glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle (Le Gobelet, Jan-08).
