The pour reveals a reddish dark amber color with a thin tan head that leaves averages lacing on the glass. The aroma has a spicy and sweet feeling to it that reminds me of sucre d’orge and licorice, there’s also a toasted malt presence and plump fruity notes. The flavor is very interesting, very festive dare I say, plump, ripe fruits mingle with sucre d’orge and licorice on a bed of toasted malt, it feels like a fruit cake, but this fruit cake isn’t as good as the one my mom makes, sweetness lingers in the finish. The body is light and I would have liked it more full, the carbonation is moderate. Well, Boréale, you surprise me, I didn’t know what to expect from your anniversary beer, but you delivered a competent brew.

Clear dark rubis red with a dark beige frothy head. Aromas of prunes, chestnuts, licorice, red grapes, pomme granite, sundried raisins, yogourt?... Added apple / grape juice, toffee, chestnut taste. Great balance between sweet and bitterness. Average body and good effervescence.

Bottle (341ml). Via trade with Viper666. Clear ruby pour, smallish creamy tan head. Mild aroma - peat, cocoa, tea and caramel malt. Taste follows, with dry leafy hop bitterness in the finish, not much alcohol at all - like a low ABV Old Ale. Sugary, slick mouthfeel, not much carbonation, very mild astringency, and a nice carbonized fruitiness in the linger. This is really easy to drink - I’d gladly have this again, a nice malty winter treat.

Amber color with a medium size head. Malty and sweet. Taste of caramel coffee and small fruits. Not really spicy. A little bit roasty. Nice - sort of dry- finish. That’s one of Boréale’s best ...

Bottle shared with Marc Bélanger of the Brouhaha, merci Marc, dark mahogany hue, with a small beige head, sweet toffeeish, toasty, caramelized, fruity nose, of dried fruits of raisin, date, plum, fig, with a faint biscuity dough accent, a chocolatey, spiced fruitcake aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a toasty, faint roasty malt character, with some sweet dry fruits, and nutmeg, liquorice spiciness, some chocolatey, toffee, cookie accents, leading towards a sweet malty, spicy anise, clovey finish.

Bottle - 341ml. Dark copper body with average carbonation and a thick beige/rusty foamy head. Good malty aroma with hoppy, brown sugar, caramel, and fruity hints. Well balanced malty/hoppy taste with oaky notes. Ends with a decent bittersweet finish. Well done.

Bouteille 341 ml. 6.9%. Originale.

Quevillon (2550) - Boisbriand, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 13, 2007
Bouteille de 341 ml, acheté au IGA Extra Daigle (Boisbriand, Québec). Couleur ruby rouge, mini collet. Arome de fruits mure malté avec une touche de réglisse sucré. Goùt de fruits amère, alcool un peu présant, sensation de malte épicé un peu doux. C’est comme un vin d’orge atténuer, assez bien, bonne fête Brasseurs du Nord!

My Bottom Line:
Toasted bread dips into salted cracker territory as licorice and candied dark fruit draw a deeper picture. This is as good as most Boréale offerings, which to me means it’s solid, quenching, and humble.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sturdy head of foam protects the clear garnet.
-The quiet finale continues the toasted malt theme, adding but a few supporting hops.
-The overall flavor profile is well structured and balanced.
-This does not feel stronger than most Boréale beers; it’s as drinkable and svelte.
-The toasted bread builds biscuits too.
-Carbonation is appropriate.

Bottle; best before March ’08.

Bottle. Pours a very deep bubbly ruby with an average size creamy tan head. Mild aroma of caramel malt, fruit, light spices and nuts. Flavour of caramel malt, dark fruit, light hops, a hint of nuts and a bit of sugar. Average bitter finish. Medium bodied. A decent Winter Ale and a good effort from the often mediocre Boréale.
