3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 Eructoblaster (2444) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 13, 2004
Nice copper and lightly hazed beer. Its head fades quickly. Pleasant malt, caramel and alcohol aroma. In the mouth, the butterscotch and malt is dominated by a quite rude alcohol taste. Surprisingly, the aftertaste is more than ordinary. Interesting, but I would not have two in a row...
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 muzzlehatch (4425) - Burlington, Vermont, USA - FEB 25, 2004
341 ml bottle. Clear darkish amber, minimal head. Light sweet, yeasty nose, hints of pepper, orange and sourdough, pleasant but a bit weak. Sweet, honeyish, simple body, a bit cloying, some interest in the more bitter/sour ending with pepper notes ... but on the whole, skippable. Certainly this brewery is better than BMC; certainly there are many, many Quebec brewers putting out much more interesting wares at only slightly higher prices. Skip it.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 nickchalk (229) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 23, 2004
Amber colour, almost no head. Mostly hops in the aroma, some sweet-citrus notes. The flavour was mostly hoppy and yeasty Belgian style, a nice balance. Decent. Bottle.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Boutip (3971) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 22, 2003
Bottle: Deep amber brew with a medium size head with more or less retention time. Alcohol is not subtle on the nose or on the tongue. The body is medium and this brew would have been better if the body had been stronger to support the higher alcohol taste. Another one in the so-so colum for Boréale.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 OKBeer (1168) - Halifax, Nova Scotia, CANADA - DEC 10, 2003
Deep amber colour with a thick frothy tan head. Toasty caramel and honey aroma. Thick caramel toffee flavour with some dark bread flavour in the background. Warming full body.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 tiggmtl (4514) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - OCT 5, 2003
UPDATED: MAR 26, 2004 Sweet malty caramel aroma. Very clear golden-copper colour with minimal white head that is fully diminishing with no apparent lacing. Initial maltiness promises big things but flavour is short-lived. Alcohol somewhat apparent in flavour due to medium-thin body. Enjoyable if somewhat simple. Bottle.
Re-rate - all I have to add is that this is a very enjoyable beer especially at low temperature where the alcohol is less apparent and the malt comes to the fore. Original 7-2-5-2-13=2.9 New rating is at colder temperature
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Ungstrup (26236) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - OCT 3, 2003
The nose is sweet and spicy with notes of yeast. Bronze colored with a fine bubbly but fast disappearing head. The flavor is malty sweet with strong notes of yeast and spices: cinnamon, honey, and other spices. The finish is dry rather than bitter. A good beer without being great. Thanks to Per.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 argo0 (10365) - Washington DC, USA - SEP 30, 2003
Clear golden with minimal off-white head. Aroma is medium sweet, floral, peach. Taste is floral, mild sweet on tongue, finishes butterscotch and light alcohol warming with slight astringency. Medium-full body.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 CapFlu (4010) - Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 25, 2003
(Bottle) Mmmm... malty-caramelizedness. Light brown with a creamy, almond head. Nose of caramel. Mild malt, piane and slight honey. Average.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 Rastacouere (6041) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JUL 12, 2003
UPDATED: JUL 18, 2003 Amber/brown color. Very caramelised nose, tastes like a light scotch ale in mouth, but doesnt possess the same complexity and alcohol strenght. Very interesting nevertheless
