2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 muzzlehatch (4425) - Burlington, USA - FEB 25, 2004
341 ml bottle. Clear darkish amber, minimal head. Light sweet, yeasty nose, hints of pepper, orange and sourdough, pleasant but a bit weak. Sweet, honeyish, simple body, a bit cloying, some interest in the more bitter/sour ending with pepper notes ... but on the whole, skippable. Certainly this brewery is better than BMC; certainly there are many, many Quebec brewers putting out much more interesting wares at only slightly higher prices. Skip it.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Metalchopz (1427) - Quebec, CANADA - JAN 25, 2012
Originally rated August 2005. As with other Boréale brews, it pours a small head and minimal lace. The colour is a rich amber and the carbonation is light. Rust is felt in the nose with a mild touch of roasted malt. The alcohol is felt at first, then goes through a nut flavour to end smoothly , but with a hint of bitterness. Some metallic notes are also tasted. Again, not a bad beer, but nothing exceptional. The slight metal found in Boréale beers turn me off sometimes. Note: Nowadays, I really enjoy Boréale beers, so they might of changed their hop.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 VT (285) - Quebec City, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 19, 2011
From a 341 ml bottle into a pint. Pours a golden brown, clear ale. A thick white head quickly disappears. Strongly tastes of sweet caramel, with hints of fruits and sweet cereals. Very subtle bitterness in the finish, but mostly caramel. Alcohol is hard to find in this one, very good for accompanying tasty meals.
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 kubilai (111) - , Quebec, CANADA - AUG 26, 2011
Copper liquid headed by a off-white cloud. Aromas of cereals, bread and caramel. Great taste of grassy hops and wood, combined with some fruit notes (plum, cherry). Classic amber ale with sweet bitterness at end.
3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Marheb (671) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 7, 2011
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Kinz (2694) - Glen Allen, Virginia, USA - MAY 7, 2011
Medium amber. Slight caramel aroma, hint of spice. Some fruitiness, mostly light apricot, and faint bitterness on finish. Nothing wrong with this, just not much going on here. Food friendly though, had this with a wild boar terrine and it went quite well. Almost more Belgian than an amber in many ways.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 czar (1205) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - APR 5, 2011
pours dark golden, red tint, with a small white head. toasted malts, grainy, nice caramel here, hint of sweetness along some decent herbal hops with a touch of citrus. refreshing, even at 6.9%. rather heavy carbonation, oily mouthfeel, light to medium body. good.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 davidm (1359) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - DEC 28, 2010
Tap. Great beer. Aromas of toffee, caramel, apricot, and liquorice. Taste is sweet, with good length, and bitter notes. Palate is velvety, and medium bodied. Amber, with a thin head.
3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 DeanF (1484) - Iqaluit, Nunavut, CANADA - DEC 13, 2010
Very faint malt aroma, even when warm. Extra points for the small baggy of roasted malts. Brownish body and a tiny bit of head on top. Taste is roasted malts, smooth drinking, but totally not complex. Dry and alcoholic finish. It’s well crafted, but uninteresting.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 MXD (295) - Gatineau/St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 7, 2010
Pours copper/rust. No head to speak of. Aroma is yeast-led (apples...), with some floral hops thrown in. Taste is slightly peppery, fruity, woody and malt. Caramel and raw sugar as well. Surprisingly grainy. One of the least bitter/hoppy beer I’ve ever drank on the "right" side of the macros. Really smooth finale. Watery, light-to-medium body. At 7,99 CND for a 6-pack, you don’t get much of a better price/quality/booze bargain, but it still feels incomplete, and not as well-made as their stout. Barely a belgian -- taste is all in sepia tone.
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 DerWeg (1271) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 18, 2010
Clear rusty blonde, tall pillowy white cap. Aroma is yeasty and dry. Does shoe a little citrus grape and spice. Taste a range of pale fruits and then some vaguely tripel-ish hops following on. Seems a bit play-it-safe, and the light body reinforces this impression. A beer I would have liked more 15 years ago...
