3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: MAR 24, 2006 Bottle. I like that one. Deep black color with ruby reflection and tan head. Smells of coffee and roasted malt. Taste of malt, roasted oats and dark chocolate (reminds me of a chocolate stout), good carbonation and bitterness, very good stout.

(Rating #65)

AHHHHHHH, now that’s a stout. DEATH TO THE WIGGET CAN! Bottle : pours a thick black, brown head small bubbles qucickly disapating. this is not you’re ol’ irish Faaders stout. Silk on the palate with some acid notes. No fule notes. Multi layerd flavour, Caramel Malt is the first taste, followed by burnt toffee, toasty chocolate - coffie, and the final nutty bitter taste, with a hint of sour apple and anise in every level. Aftertaste smokey, clean, beautiful. Best served at 6-8’C.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Toasted caramel malt aromas, cofee undertones and butterscotch accents. Fast dissappearing head of dark brown medium sized bubbles, very dark filtered colour, deep red, almost black.Toasted malt, burnt caramel-toffee tastes, takes a very long time to dissapear. The sides of the tongue tinge with a sour note.Tintilating on the tongue, tart and sour. Roasted caramel, the thickness hints on this very well. Very well crafted, though somewhat light bodied stout. Warm tempatures should make this beer more tasty, at 4’C the taste was too light, the roasted caramel took over the taste of the hops.

Solid beer. Almost totally opaque black with very little head. The nose is all roasted coffee. The flavour is much more suggestive of dark chocolate with somecoffee. Great smooth mouthfeel without too much carbonation.

Clearly one underrated product and perhaps the best beer of Les Brasseurs du Nord.
The beer was Noire and had a proper head. Dark Chocolate, Roasted Coffee and Hints of licorice were definitely there!
This is amongst my favorite beers for this time of the season. It has something comforting, a bit like taking an afternoon tea.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Dark black with moka head. Chocolate , coffee and vanilla aroma , slightly burnt caramel in the nose. Not overly sweet , with chocolate, and peaty notes, lightly smoked in mid taste. Mild bitter finish. which lingers pleasantly. Light to medium bodied, but interesting marriage of choclate and smoked. Been a while i didnt try the Noire, and my feel is, most Boreale products have gone up in quality.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Very dark black colour with a thick brown head that quickly dissipates. Fizzy carbonation. Metallic aroma, coffee, and a bit of chocolate. Mouthfeel is quite nice however. Coffee and chocolate flavour. Roasty with a bit of bitterness.
