COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Nearly black with ruby glints and a creamy head, Boréale Noire is a full-bodied stout. Its rich velvety taste suggests dark chocolate and roasted coffee with hints of licorice.

pours oily black with a creamy tan head head and nice lacing. Aroma is pure chocolate. Flavor is coffee and cream. Warm, sweet finish. Nice.

Liquide noir avec une belle mousse beige. Nez et bouche de malt rôti, de cacao, de café et touche de vanille. Présence de fumée et de réglisse en cours de dégustation. Le liquide est de densité moyenne à forte et sa texture est soyeuse. Petite amertume. En résumé, agréable.

Pours with a dark robe and a beige foamy head that is quickly gone. Chocolate aromas with notes of butterscotch and toffey. Very smooth and silky with a vanilla finish.

Bottle bought at the Brussels Christmas market, of all places. Nice looking black beer with brown head. Nose has an even roastiness, pleasant blackberry note, and a faint acrid sourness that is something like coffee left on the burner a little too long. Nice balanced taste, lightly sweet with a fair bitterness, round and smooth flavor. A bit thin, could use more character, but very quaffable.

Fairly plain stout but pretty good. A lot of roasted malt. Not much depth in the flavour but it is good. Not great but good.

[2264-20090607] Sample. Chocolatey roast aroma. Black body with a long-lasting creamy mocha head. Nutty roast malt flavour. Full body is a bit rough. Really fresh, surprisingly great stout when cold.

In Québec, you can get it for 7,99$ per 6-pack. Still, it is one of Québec’s finest stout, another good brew from that former microbrewer, that success has not corrupted yet. Very well-balanced stout, with high carbonation, rich texture in bottle (I remember liking it a lot on tap many years ago) and appropriate dominant coffee taste, with notes of chocolate and licorice, as they say, but it is the pretty intense bitterness of that beer that makes me like it very much. At least as good then the St.Ambroise Oatmeal Stout, just with their own personnalities.

Bottle from Deppaneur Rahmann. Pours a deep jet black with a very hefty mocha head. Aroma is sweet with dark fruit and chocolate. Thin bodied with a lot of roast coming through. Roasted bitter finish. Nothing exceptional, but not too shabby either. With a little thicker body this would be pretty strong.

UPDATED: JUN 21, 2009 Bottle, really dark color, head a bit small but still there. Hard to find distinctive aroma (for my unexperimented nose). I would say roasted malt. Flavor would be light sweet. Nothing really distinctive about this beer. Well balanced. Rating no 5, 2009/02/01. Re-rate 090621. Aroma is big roasted malt. Some coffee as well. Taste is roasted malt. A bit smoke maybe. This is roasted malt all around. Body felt a bit thin for my taste. Some sweetness not too much. Refreshing. Aroma 5 to 7. Flavor 5 to 7. Overall 12 to 14.

Manque definitivement de corps et de saveurs de grains rotis... une Boreale rousse plus foncee? Definitely, this stout lack in body and roasted grain aroma.
