"Garún is named for the strong and brave heroine of one of Iceland’s most popular folktales "The deacon of Dark River (Myrká)." A tale of ghosts, undying love, and life triumphing over death told against the backdrop of elements essential to Iceland’s character: ice, snow, and flooding waters whirling dark and mysterious. The same elements that inspire this rich, intense, bold and swirlingly varied Icelandic stout. Garún is a dark aura of intense richness and haunting aroma with notes of chocolate, licorice and coffee.

Only my second Icelandic beer. Looks like a road trip is in order. Can I get there on one of those ice roads? There’s a big beer lurking in this small bottle. Dark and oily and intense.

At the airport in Reykjavik. Black. Oily. Boozy. Chocolate, mild coffee, and molasses. Doesn’t hide that 11.5% at all. Phew. Reminds me of Dark Horizon, but without so much complexity or smoothness. This is an ass-kicker of a brew.

Jet black pour with a single finger espresso head. Aroma has that raisin, fig and licorice thing going on. Huge body and tons of lace in the glass. Taste is full of chocolate, roasted malt and a hint of licorice. Alcohol is nicely hidden. Dry finish.

33cl bottle, poured into snifter. A very nice travel present straight from Iceland, thanks to my family, what a nice pick ;D Pours a 1 finger beige and dense head, deep black appearance. Smells lots of cocoa, huge malty background, raisins, sweet licorice and toffee notes. Taste is again characterized by a very nice and intense roasted malt flavor, dark fruity, dark chocolate, and light hints coffee/espresso. The mouth profile is quite interesting cause of a dominant medium level roasted sweetness, really pleasant and never cloying, which is followed by a light bitterness. Despite of the soft hoppy/bitter side, it manages to keep a great balance. Full bodied, modest carbonation, creamy and slick texture. The aroma didn’t impress me as much compared to the taste, and for being almost 12% I’ve to say it’s definitely smooth. A nice and neat Imperial Stout

Bardzo dobre piwo ale ja lubię stouty. Kolor czarny, piana mała. Aromat czekolady i karmelu, wyczuwalny alkohol. W smaku owoce i czekolada, słodkie. Bardzo łagodne pomimo alkoholu na podniebieniu.

Bottle. Pours black with beige head. Classic aroma of imperial stout with coffee, chocolate, molases and some dried fruits. In flavour medium sweet with chocolate, caramel and candi sugar notes. Full body, light alcoholic note in the finish, soft carbonation. Solid brew.
