COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Garún is named for the strong and brave heroine of one of Iceland’s most popular folktales "The deacon of Dark River (Myrká)." A tale of ghosts, undying love, and life triumphing over death told against the backdrop of elements essential to Iceland’s character: ice, snow, and flooding waters whirling dark and mysterious. The same elements that inspire this rich, intense, bold and swirlingly varied Icelandic stout. Garún is a dark aura of intense richness and haunting aroma with notes of chocolate, licorice and coffee. Skál!"

Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured a dark brown color with an average frothy brown head that lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted chocolate, coffee and alcohol aroma. Medium to heavy dark toasted dark chocolate malt flavor with a medium to heavy dark sweet and small alcohol bite finish of long duration. Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a standout beer.

11.2oz bottle shared by Scott. Poured a medium pitch black with a smaller deep beige foamy head. Aroma is a bit on the sweet side, syrupy chocolate, vanilla, dark chocolate, dark cherry. Nice medium body but carbonation is a bit stingy, wish it was a bit more creamy. Flavor of sweet chocolate, vanilla, dark cherry juice, burnt toast, cracker, soy sauce.

Bottle from Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours very dark brown black with a rather dark tan head. Aroma makes me think of graham crackers and chocolate. Med + body. Flavor is rather graham with anise, chocolate, and some decent coffee confusion. Heat is not an issue here. This is very different, and very tasty stuff. The dark malt is pretty far from treacle, but there’s some sugar. Still, I think it finishes towards dry, and there’s bitter from either hop or burnt malt. Very nice stuff.

11.2oz bottle, thanks to alexsdad06 for sharing! Pitch black color, with a thin light brown head. Couple loose dots of lace. Big roast malt, some dark fruit in the flavor, hint of coffee, hint of smoke. Bigger bitter taste, light to moderate sweet. Nice light bit of warmth in the finish, but the 11.5% works pretty well. Good long dark chocolate, roasty, lightly vinous aftertaste. Bigger body. Smooth, light carbonation, good chewiness to it. Lightly drying finish. Pretty damn tasty stuff.

11.2 oz bottle shared with Tmoney99. Pours a dark cola brown color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have a big roasted malt, rich chocolate, dark fruit, some alcohol heat but I wouldn’t expect any less from an Icelandic Imperial stout, not the same old imperial stout.

Bottle. Pours opaque black with a medium creamy dark brown head that dissipates slowly and laces well. Aroma is roast, anise, a bit burned. Flavor is similar, light sweet and medium bitter, very dark roasted, some bakers chocolate, a bit of anise here as well. Medium body, average mouthfeel. Some lingering heat, but otherwise ABV well masked. Nice enough!
