COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Garún is named for the strong and brave heroine of one of Iceland’s most popular folktales "The deacon of Dark River (Myrká)." A tale of ghosts, undying love, and life triumphing over death told against the backdrop of elements essential to Iceland’s character: ice, snow, and flooding waters whirling dark and mysterious. The same elements that inspire this rich, intense, bold and swirlingly varied Icelandic stout. Garún is a dark aura of intense richness and haunting aroma with notes of chocolate, licorice and coffee. Skál!"

Pours almost black with good tan head that diminishes pretty quickly. Aromas of chocolate, coffee and malt with a slight touch of red berry fruit and burnt toast. Full bodied and good carbonation, great mouth feel. Taste is of vanilla, cocoa, raisins with slightly metallic finish.

Bottle from a Vínbúdin in Reykjavik. Pours almost black with a thin layer of beige froth. Pretty mild coffee aroma. The taste is rich with lots of coffee and liquorice. Slightly woody with a lingering bitter finish. Surprisingly high carbonation at first, though this fades after a few sips to leave a more oily texture. Very decent.

Pullo @ Uba & Humal, Tallinna. Kaatuu snifteriin sysimustana ja melko paksuna, noin sormen paksuisella tiiviillä vaahdolla. Tuoksussa makea soijakastikemaisuus yhdistyy kahviseen paahteisuuteen.

Black with a lasting tan head. Heavy aroma of chocolate, vanilla and licorice. Sweet and full bodied flavour of chocolate, caramel and vanilla. A very good dessert type imperial stout

Bottle. Thin lasting tan head on a pitch black color. Aroma is licorice, dark fruits, and burnt dark grains.

Flavor shows me lasting black licorice with slight charred chocolate base. In the finish notes of smoke and char. Body is full and has a smooth texture. This is very nice!

Black. A heavy pour draws out a bit of brown head that fizzles and fades. Aroma has lots of molasses, dates, raisin. Licorice for sure, as the label says. Taste is licorice, tobacco, molasses, burnt toast. All of that in a "bright" way if that makes sense. Big, bold, but remarkably balanced with ample bitterness. Probably the most easy-drinking 11.5% imp. stout I’ve tried. Can we make a new category of "black barleywine"? that might suit this, since the "roast/toast" is such a secondary feature.

pours black with a thin, fleeting head. Aromas of burnt toast, coffee, banana, dried fruit, vanilla. Palate is thick, with a mature carbonation common in well aged beer. Taste is truly intense, all tastes melding perfectly, like it was aged for twenty years in an Icelandic turf house. Brjálaður ljúffengur, fjólublátt api risaeðla.

Really heavy, leathery, toast, smoke, dark chocolat. One of my favorite icelandic souts
