3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle and served in snifter: Near pitch black with a small head, spotty lace and oily tears. Anise, tobacco, earthy Icelandic ash, prune, dark cherry, rye bread and piney bitterness over a winter warming alcohol. Faint touch of chocolate covered espresso bean as well. Slick and silky mouth feel. You are assimilated...

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Pours cloudy nearly black with airy tan head. Clear aroma of grain, with notes of yeast and touches of coffee. Sweet flavour of malt, caramel and chocolate, with notes of coffee and roast. Strong alcohol presence, especially towards the finish. Roasty and alco-bitter aftertaste. Okay, nice but not top notch.

Pours an opaque black with a big bubbly brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, cocoa and alcohol all in a pleasant balance. Taste is roasted malts, cocoa, chocolate and a nice bitter coffee on the finish Thays a touch astringent with a nice alcohol warming on the finish. Impressed with my first Icelandic beer and fairly smooth for being 11.5 percent.

The best thing about Garún is how lightly bodied it is. Very nice dark beige head when poured into a glass. Aroma of chocolate and coffee, the taste as well + some licorice. Thumbs up to Borg for a great Imperial Icelandic Stout.
