"Garún is named for the strong and brave heroine of one of Iceland’s most popular folktales "The deacon of Dark River (Myrká)." A tale of ghosts, undying love, and life triumphing over death told against the backdrop of elements essential to Iceland’s character: ice, snow, and flooding waters whirling dark and mysterious. The same elements that inspire this rich, intense, bold and swirlingly varied Icelandic stout. Garún is a dark aura of intense richness and haunting aroma with notes of chocolate, licorice and coffee. Skál!"

Kauge (567) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - MAR 23, 2015
Bottle from Sip in Tallinn. BB 01.2027. I like how the label paper feels - Kernel-ish. It pours a dark brown colour, the head is tan, huge, with good retention and lacing. The nose is roasty and very chocolaty sweet, the hops are there too, also a note of liqorice. Extremely sweet taste with intense bitterness when swallowing and in the finish. Lactic! Real nice alcoholic warmth, almost heat. Body medium plus, carbonation below average, mouthfeel quite soft. But to me it’s too sugary, and too boozy to really enjoy, and the intense bitterness in the finish is a bit too harsh. Otherwise nice.

Pumpkin87 (85) - - MAR 19, 2015
Pours dark and opaque as used motor oil, with thin milk chocolate head. Aroma is dark malt, with chocolate, dried fruit, coffee. Those persist on the tongue, with earthy hops and some alcohol heat, primarily on the slightly bitter finish. As with many other good stouts, the body is lighter than the appearance. Borg Garun is a very decent representative of the type, a good winter drink.
