COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Garún is named for the strong and brave heroine of one of Iceland’s most popular folktales "The deacon of Dark River (Myrká)." A tale of ghosts, undying love, and life triumphing over death told against the backdrop of elements essential to Iceland’s character: ice, snow, and flooding waters whirling dark and mysterious. The same elements that inspire this rich, intense, bold and swirlingly varied Icelandic stout. Garún is a dark aura of intense richness and haunting aroma with notes of chocolate, licorice and coffee. Skál!"

Classic imperial stout interpretation, a good deal of chocolate and cocoa notes, roasted coffee and warming mouthfeel. Not too full due to added sugar, but pretty strong and enjoyable.

mile (3714) - Helsinki, FINLAND - FEB 26, 2016
Bottle. Very dark brown, small and fully diminishing light brown head. Moderate to full, malty and sweetish aroma, some caramel, light roasted malt and light coffee/chocolate, faint hoppyness. Body is medium to full, malty and sweetish flavor, some caramel and light roasted malt, light coffee and faint alcohol. Finish is average, malty and lightly sweetish - sweetish, light - some caramel and light roasted malt, light coffee and faint hoppyness, light ahcohol. Caramel sweetish IS with light roastiness - could use more bitterness. Head is really weak.

Bottle. A- Dark fruits, anise, chocolate, subtle apple. A- Black color, black liquid, brown head. T- Dark fruits, anise, chocolate, subtle green apple. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, smooth finish. O- There were some hints that this might be a bit infected but it was still very very good. The coffee seemed minimal but just a solid beer.

Small bottle, bought in Bottle Jockey. Slightly sweet aroma and taste with smoke notes of roasted malt, burnt sugar (not even caramel), with a slight touch of smoked pork sirloin and alcohol on the background. Aftertaste with burnt sugar sweet bitterness with alcohol notes. Just not bad.

Bottle, purchased in Minneapolis. Dark beer and very low carbonation. The head is gone in seconds. Aroma has some alcohol, anise also, and burnt grain. Flavor has some complexity. More anise, which works very well in this beer, some coffee and chocolate character, Roasted malt but also a lot of sugar. Thick, full palate. Anise is especially strong in the aftertaste. I really like the flavor and the palate, and this is one of the better imperial stouts I have had anywhere.
