COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Garún is named for the strong and brave heroine of one of Iceland’s most popular folktales "The deacon of Dark River (Myrká)." A tale of ghosts, undying love, and life triumphing over death told against the backdrop of elements essential to Iceland’s character: ice, snow, and flooding waters whirling dark and mysterious. The same elements that inspire this rich, intense, bold and swirlingly varied Icelandic stout. Garún is a dark aura of intense richness and haunting aroma with notes of chocolate, licorice and coffee. Skál!"

Smooth creamy roasted aromas. Solid black with a caramelized brown head. Big roasted notes in a perfect medium body with a nice creaminess that blends right to the smooth finish.

Bottle. Dark body, medium to small tan head. Aroma has roasted pecan nuts, dark chocolate, whiskey barrel. So good. Silky mouthfeel with smooth alcohol warmth. Taste has roasted nuts, well roasted coffee, dark chocolate and some peaty whiskey. Smooth warming finish, the high level of alcohol is well covered and not distracting at all. One of the best Imperial Stouts that I’ve had.

Opaque black. Rich, sweet, smoky aroma. Raisins, prunes, and molasses up front. Smoky peat and cocoa balance out the sweetness at the end. A big well-balanced beer with a lot of flavor. Very rich - excellent!

Pours an opaque black with a one-finger choco-tan head that reduces to thin ring lacing. The nose is of sweet malt, heavy chocolates and barley. Sweet flavors of caramel, milk chocolate, alcohol astringency, semi-sweet chocolates, extremely light espresso, lactose sugars and finishes with a licorice/Kahlua close. The flavors are absolutely beautiful, well-integrated, complex for days, and sweet, like pipe tobacco integrated with Dove chocolates. The mouthfeel is luscious and velvety, thick with a full body and milky silk palate. Great, great Impy Stout here, and will definitely stock up when I find more of these. Just gorgeous. Absolutely luscious. Extremely tasty. Superbly put together. What more can I say? Perfect!

It’s called an Icelandic stout, if this what stouts taste like in Iceland I need to put Iceland on my list of places to visit. Very rich stout, coffee flavors, smooth. This is a great stout!

Bottle 0,33. Gift from D. Shared with friends. Good example of very good stout: full body, complex taste, rich aroma. Liked it!

haukur (1429) - Reykjavik, ICELAND - OCT 26, 2013
UPDATED: JAN 4, 2014 Pitch black, oily pour with a nice brown lacing head. Incredibly nice aroma, molasses, some earthy notes, tiny hints of vanilla, big malts, mocha and liquorice candy. Falls a bit flat on the tongue, not too roasty and too sweet but is a bit lacking in the finish. Tasty imperial stout nonetheless. 01/04/2013 Has evelved since I last tasted this. Still that awesome molasses in the nose, body is bigger, finish is deeper. Awesome brew.

Draft at Eulogy. Thick cloudy dark brown pour with a tight tan head. Silky smooth complex chocolate character. Fantastic stout! Major notes of cocoa, liquorice and ash. Minor notes of brown fruit, coffee and spice. Creamy on the tongue. Dark toffee caramels. Black leather. Charcoal. Burnt cinnamon. High ABV is well hidden. Very nicely balanced. Feels a bit of a mix of a Russian Imperial and a Baltic Porter. Delicious!

Bottle. Oily jet black with a 1 finger khaki head. Aroma is dark fruit, burnt sugar and chocolate. Taste adds charred malt, coffee and a hint of marshmallow. Thick, sticky palate that really coats the mouth. This is everything you look for in an imperial stout.
