Pours dark ruby with a thin fully receding tan head. Notes of sweet fruits, toffee, bubble gum, spice, pepper, cola. Full bodied, with smooth and low carbonation. A very nice dubbel.

Bottle:

Clear brown beer with a little cream coloured head. Fair duration. Aroma is caramel, sweet malts. Flavor is somewhat more complex with notes of chocolate, sweet malts, alcohol and bitter hops. The beer still seems boring, though. Palate is watery, no traces of thickness or creamyness. The bad texture and fizzy carbonation ruins this beer.

750-ml bottle Rouses, Lafayette, LA - Aroma: raisin, sweet malt, ; Appearance: clear, opaque reddish-brown color, off-white to tan head, lots of laces; Flavor: dried fruit, sweet, salty; Mouthfeel: full bodied, creamy texture, average carbonation; Overall: a smooth moderate alcohol belgian beer with smell and taste of dried fruit, malty sweetness, and a slight dry finish. However, would like more complexity with phenols and esters, maybe more chocolate.

Smells like dark fruit, raisins, and brown sugar. The taste has dark fruits and chocolate, with just enough sweetness. Nice carbonation makes it refreshing, despite the strong flavor. Not too much alcohol. Very good beer! I might not give it back to Ughsmash...

12oz bottle. Poured mostly clear burnt orange with lively rising carbonation and a creamy cap of beige head. The aroma picked up toasty raisins, dates, and honey with accents of vanilla bean and smoke.. peppery spices on the back.. excellent presentation. The flavor found a whole lot more of raisins with lesser dates, and again some sweet honey to tie it together.. white and black pepper plus a touch of cloves around.. enjoyed the dry earthy yeast laced throughout. Medium-bodied and warm on the palate with dense carbonation.. spicy and engaging.. YUM!

Pours dark reddish-brown with a white head. The aroma is standard dubbel, with dark fruit, candi sugar and Belgian yeast. The flavor is dominated by dark fruit but it was kind of a let down after the great aroma the beer had. Not sure what was missing, but there was something lacking in the flavor. The mouthfeel is relatively thin, thinner than I like in a beer of this style and somewhat watery. Low carbonation.

Reviewed 11/23/2009 (bottle): Pours a dark red brown color body, with a big foamy light tan color head, somewhat lasting. Strong sweet malty aroma, some earthiness. Sweetness like sugar and dark fruit like plums and dark cherries. Dark fruit taste, light aftertaste. Dark cherry. Sweetness and floral notes. not too complex. Not too shabby.
