Commercial Description:
Very dark, coffee color - full rich body - staying head - effervescent nose - soft velvet feeling in the mouth - luscious. Malt character with a hoppy aftertouch. Monks used to fast on this type of beer for 40 days! No food, only beer.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a 3 finger white head. Aroma and flavor is roasted malt, caramel malts, some hops. Flavor is very malty, some booziness, bitter roasty finish and dark fruit.

V - brown pour with an exciteable head that crackels but doesn’t leave much lacing behind. A - Not much of one that I could detect. T - first impression is an alcoholic taste which fades into a malty wheat and then is gone in the carbonation. P - carbonation explodes in the mouth seemingly filling up with bubbles and not leaving much in the way of the actual beer behind

Bottle @ Café Viking, Cph. Served in a trappist glass. Pours a clear deep red-brown colour with a very nice steady creamy long lasting beige head leaving a good sticky lacing. Aroma of some yeast and well toasted malt, some dark fruits and alcohol. Good mouthfeel. The flavour is rather mild for a dubbel with a good bitterness, a good well toasted maltiness and some dark fruits.

Not a fan of this one. Pours a ruby-brown hue with thick off-white head. Aroma is banana, bread and dark fruit. Taste is very smooth, more banana and bread. Finish is very bitter/acidic/metallic. this would be a decent brew if not for the horrible finish. Would not seek out again.

Poured a dark brown hazy color with a little off white head. Aroma was a bit fruity but with a nice malty finish. Flavor is a bit acidic but malty at the same time.

As if I hadn’t learned my lesson from the previous van Steenberge beer I just tried, this one foamed so much it overflowed my glass. Twice. Less of a stiff meringue type head and more just alot of dense bubbly foam. Dark ruby tinted brown, cloudy. Fruity aroma with notes of banana, mango and a little brown sugar. Banana and sugar flavors, with a light dry finish that has a little touch of tannins and tart acidity. Aftertaste is somewhat metallic.

330 ml bottle poured into a Duvel glass. pours a murky brown with an audible large beige head. smells of cinnamon, raisins, and fruity esters. a whole lot of raisin and caramel in the flavor as well as some brown sugar and light spice. full bodied and long lasting head. finishes pretty clean, just a tang of hop bitterness. not the best dubbel I have ever had but it is very solid.
