Very dark, coffee color - full rich body - staying head - effervescent nose - soft velvet feeling in the mouth - luscious. Malt character with a hoppy aftertouch. Monks used to fast on this type of beer for 40 days! No food, only beer.

330ml bottle. Murky amber body with a collapsing light brown head. A bit weak aroma of malt and caramel. Flavor is sweet malty, caramel, some dry fruit, burnt sugar and some hops in the finish. OK, but a bit plain and simple, just forgotten after next beer.

bottle - Pours mostly clear dark amber with a light tan head. The aroma is of dark fruit and caramel malt. It tastes sweet and caramel accented with a little spice. It’s medium bodied and nothing spectacular, but it’s definitely an enjoyable brew.

Aquilo (456) - Berkeley, California, USA - DEC 13, 2009
Deep cloudy brown with a thick white head. Aroma is very sweet, too sweet actually, but I do like some sweetness. Aromas of caramel, butterscotch, peaches, and raisins. Flavor is a bit weak, but it hides the sweetness well. Very lively carbonation. Overall, disappointing for an Abby ale.
