Spritzy yeasty malty spicy scent. Spritzy, very high co2 level mouthfeel. Low bitterness. Taste is fruity and alcohol. spectrex26 (9), Naples, Florida, USA does not count | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 14, 2007 Bottle: Pours a dark brown, with a light head which flattens out in a quick manner. Aroma was very good with straw, a perfume scent, maybe nutmeg and cinnamon, and what I would describe as a gingerbread or pfefferneuse. A little light bodied with only a metallic tinge standing out at the start. Caramel, toffee, with the faintest smoke flavor hiding in there. Flavor is a bit less than I would have liked, but the aroma was pleasant. moejuck (1165), Ohio, USA

Very dark copper colored brew has a medium palate. Nice spices in the flavor up front with tastes of yeast and caramel/toffee flavors throughout. Suprised me. MoritzF (4922), Bochum, Germany

Yeasty, sweet toast-malty with caramel, notes of dark berries and a vinous alcoholic touch. Moderately sweet flavour, medium to full bodied with a moderate, almost crispy mouthfeel. Toast-malty taste with raisins and a touch of caramel; sweetish malty, slightly fruity and alcoholic finish. Rather average Dubbel. Beer number two in my "Dubbel Friday" and this one misses the mark. Aroma was yeast and cereal (call me crazy but it’s Cinnamon Toast Crunch). Pour was a dark brown with a nice 3 finger puffy head that laced the whole way down. Taste was musty yeast and not much else. No dark fruit. Aftertaste was dirty. Not very good. joshwilfong (776), Cleveland, Ohio, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 19, 2007 On tap at Trollenkelder, Gent, as Trollenbier Dark. Didn’t realise this was a rebadge of Bornem Dubbel, else I wouldn’t have ordered it. But it turns out I hadn’t rated Bornem Dubbel anyway. Very dark brown colour with a fluffy tan head. There’s a sort of moist malt character running through the beer. On the nose there’s some fat fruit and a candi sugar sweetness. And, although the fruit carries through into the flavour, its sharp rather than rich and the mouthfeel is curiously thin. Not unpleasant but I didn’t find it particularly engaging.
