smcd (366), USA Mar 11, 2007 (03/2007. As Trollenbier Bruin). Soft nose full of chocolate and a hint of tobacco. Tan head that falls quickly and leaves just a hint of lace. Surprisingly light on the palate, but with nice notes of pale malts and ever so slightly sour. Very drinkable. harrisoni (6704), Ashford, Kent, England Mar 10, 2007 330ml bottle from Trafalgar Wines, Brighton. Very deep brown/red colour with huge beige lasting head. A good inch high and not disappearing foam. Medium sized white floaters. Slightly vinous easy drinking dubbel, no great depth, but not empty either. Belgian yeast and grape aroma. More grape juice in mouth. Some unsubtle choc malt. Finish has some hop and more sourish yeast. Weirdly some green apple fruit flavours too. EHSRanders (1121), Randers C, Denmark Mar 8, 2007 Bottle. Reddish dark brown colour with medium sediment and large lasting head.
Spicy, sweet and bitter flavor. Well balanced beer. blizzardlover (43), Minnesota, USA Mar 7, 2007 Reddish-orange pour. Some sediment. Nice amount. Huge head. Immediate. Draught like in carbonation after the explosive head. Floral, smoky, dusty aroma. Metallic taste initially, followed by a woody, sour aftertaste. Overall, not a bad brew. SHIG (2012), Aviano, Italy Mar 4, 2007 Draught: Poured a reddish dark brown with light brown head. Spicy liquorice hoppy aroma. The taste was a sweet luscious malt with a sorta candy flavor. rmussman (905), California, USA Mar 1, 2007 Aroma is a bit overwhelming as it jumps right at you. Appearance is very dark and its very hard to control the head as its just continues to carbonate. Flavor is packed full of flavor but its not that great, and it has a harsh aftertaste. DruncanVeasey (2695), The Penguin’s Arms, Europe, Warwickshire, England Feb 26, 2007 Fiendish pitch pour with the faintest of ruby halos. Outrageous wisps of candyfloss froth climbing out of the glass. Sourish blackcurranty nose with a suggestion of Rodenbach-like dankness. Smooth and sweet-sour black cherry fruity with a touch of burnt malt character emerging in a dryish finish. Drinks way below its strength, and with more complexity than expected. BigBeer45 (676), Troy, Michigan, USA Feb 21, 2007 Dark ruby pour, large head of off-white foam that persisted, medium and dark malt with cellar fragrances, faint sweet and caramel in the background, there is a aroma of smokiness and/or roast mixed in, light on the tongue, lots of carbonation, dark malt flavor with some faint coffee, dry on the palate, a hop bitterness in the finish.
