Habanero (610), Tranbjerg, Denmark Nov 20, 2005 Off-white head and medium lasting. Brown colour. Fruity/ malt aroma. Caramel, dryed fruit and herbs in the flavour. Slightly sweet finish. OK but not a remarkalel dubbel. altkencru (143), USA Nov 7, 2005 Tasted just like Coresendonck Brown...in fact I think it is Corsendonck Brown! Jukkabro (2981), Tampere, Finland Nov 7, 2005 Dark red colored, big beige head. Sweet and cherry aroma. Pouring carbonation. Sweetness, bubble gum, cherries in flavor, mild alcohol in aftertaste, sweetness lasts. Too sweet and bubbling brew for me. bombshelter (349), Washington, Washington DC, USA Nov 6, 2005 bottle from whole foods. aroma is caramel, mollasses, bread. looks like the picture...dark brown, huge head that sticks around. medium/light body...much less heavy than expected for the style. flavor is definitely malty, some chocolate, ..this is very carbonated, and it makes the finish less sweet. good, but could be a little more malt complexity. Eructoblaster (1477), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Nov 2, 2005 Bottle. Nice cloudy brown body with ruby glints, moderate carbonation and a thick beige pillowy head. Interesting malty aroma with fruity (plum, dark cherries), bready, and yeasty notes. Taste is a bit less complex: it is mainly hoppy with bready hints. It ends with a decent bitter finish and leaves a pretty fair warming effect. Average Dubbel. jmuhops (663), Winchester, Virginia, USA Oct 19, 2005 Pours brown with a large off-white head. I swear I saw one bubble dancing above the rest as though suspended from a spider’s web. The weirdest thing I’ve ever seen. Yeasty and bready aroma, with dark fruits like raisins and prunes. Kind of hot on the nose. Harsh carbonation makes it hard to distinguish flavors. Some dark fruit. The finish is sweet and yeasty.
Magicdave6 (5400), London, Greater London, England Oct 18, 2005 No#47. (bb04, i asked for the 1984 and got this as gareth got me the wrong one, but still aged for a good few years). Aroma is a nice sour fruitiness, with some nuts. Taste is great, sourish, with loads of dark fruits, a good appley light oak flavour from the aging also. Great. Strykzone (1458), Wood River, Illinois, USA Oct 10, 2005 While advertised as coffee color that is only true if the coffee is very weak. It is quite dark, but closer to a cola color. The aroma was not as pronounced as hoped. Raisens were most evident, perhaps even raisen cookies. Very nice but it took some work to find it. In appearance the first thing noticed was the head. Massive! Took forever to dissipate. Haveing been disappointed by the aroma, the flavor was a surprise. Delicious tasting beer! Lots of sweet fruit, with raisens again being prominent. It had a true rich sweetness that was delightful to sample.
