ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA Oct 5, 2005 Tap in Albany: brown body. Darker fruits like raisins, banana and sugar in aroma and flavor. Finishes sweet and is fruity and enjoyable. Perkeo (318), Portland, Oregon, USA Oct 3, 2005 Murky brown, small white head; bubble gum and plum aroma, earthy, coffee and watery caramel flavor with some orange peel, slight roast in aftertaste. A little too "funky" for my tastes... argo0 (6861), Washington DC, USA Sep 24, 2005 (750ml bottle) Big tan head atop a clear, dark brown-red body. Aroma is moderately sweet, raisin, plum, grape, caramel, some cookie, light herbal. Taste is moderately sweet, raisin, caramel, plum, light cherry, alcohol. Watery medium body, surprisingly light for the ABV. wunderbier (1264), Tampere, Finland Sep 18, 2005 Deep brown-red hue is slightly hazy. Thick, frothy, off-white head. Dark bread, cherries, plums, caramel apples, herbal (lemongrass?), grape kool-aid, paprika. Very fruity in the flavor. The cherries and grapes come out strong. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbaontion. Quite smooth, though perhaps a bit dry. A nice surprise and a great deal on a tasty dubbel. SwedeDog (364), Windsor, Connecticut, USA Sep 15, 2005 33cL bottle. Well, if I thought the Bornem tripel poured like ginger ale, then the double pours like root beer. Well, maybe not. It’s actually a beautiful pour. Dark burgundy, nice head and great lace. Rather weak aroma. If you try hard, you can smell some candy sugar and metal. Not much else. Not bad, just not much. Very silky mouthfeel. I was rather surprised by that. Not very complex, but it doesn’t try to be. At first, it’s a little metallic with some dark fruits. As it warms it gets really sweet, like brown sugar and molasses. It’s better than the triple, and I might even consider going back for another. lordwunjo (46), California, USA Sep 8, 2005 Nice dark caramel color. Nice long lasting tan head. Good fruity smell. The taste is initially sweet with a crisp enjoyable aftertaste. Recommended. stubby (325), Santee, California, USA Sep 6, 2005 Almost like an English brown. Lacking the compexities of most abbey dubbels. Still, some redeeming qualities of luscious malt and quenching effervescence. sloth (1658), Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA Sep 6, 2005 Received from DeGarth, Thanks Joe! XL, tight beaded tan head, excellent retention with minimal lacing. Clarity is good, chestnut colored. Nose is pleasently fruity, raisiny, bananna and a light yeastiness. Body is medium, soft mouthfeel. Lightly sweet malts, bready, dark fruit flavors, plum, raisin with a touch of doughyness. Finish is almost dry and fruity.
