It is quite dark, but closer to a cola color. The aroma was not as pronounced as hoped. Raisens were most evident, perhaps even raisen cookies. Very nice but it took some work to find it. In appearance the first thing noticed was the head. Massive! Took forever to dissipate. Haveing been disappointed by the aroma, the flavor was a surprise. Delicious tasting beer! Lots of sweet fruit, with raisens again being prominent. It had a true rich sweetness that was delightful to sample. ABUSEDGOAT (1934), California, USA

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Oct 3, 2005 Murky brown, small white head; bubble gum and plum aroma, earthy, coffee and watery caramel flavor with some orange peel, slight roast in aftertaste. A little too "funky" for my tastes... argo0 (6883), Washington DC, USA

Aroma is moderately sweet, raisin, plum, grape, caramel, some cookie, light herbal. Taste is moderately sweet, raisin, caramel, plum, light cherry, alcohol. Watery medium body, surprisingly light for the ABV. wunderbier (1266), Tampere, Finland
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 18, 2005 Deep brown-red hue is slightly hazy. Thick, frothy, off-white head. Dark bread, cherries, plums, caramel apples, herbal (lemongrass?), grape kool-aid, paprika. Very fruity in the flavor. The cherries and grapes come out strong. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbaontion. Quite smooth, though perhaps a bit dry. A nice surprise and a great deal on a tasty dubbel. SwedeDog (364), Windsor, Connecticut, USA

Well, if I thought the Bornem tripel poured like ginger ale, then the double pours like root beer. Well, maybe not. It’s actually a beautiful pour. Dark burgundy, nice head and great lace. Rather weak aroma. If you try hard, you can smell some candy sugar and metal. Not much else. Not bad, just not much. Very silky mouthfeel. I was rather surprised by that. Not very complex, but it doesn’t try to be. At first, it’s a little metallic with some dark fruits. As it warms it gets really sweet, like brown sugar and molasses. It’s better than the triple, and I might even consider going back for another. lordwunjo (46), California, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 6, 2005 Almost like an English brown. Lacking the compexities of most abbey dubbels. Still, some redeeming qualities of luscious malt and quenching effervescence.
