thevulcan (16), England Jan 25, 2005 Nice dark colour, not too fizzy...this is my kinda beer! Definately the best Belgian beer I’ve tried! And at 8% its pretty strong stuff, without tasting too alcoholic! Less taste of the alcohol than some 5% beers I’ve tried! AleDrinker (1090), Sunnyvale, California, USA Jan 20, 2005 Pours brown with offwhite head. Aroma is of molasses and maple syrup. Mouthfeel has a yeasty bitterness to it but that bitterness doesn’t linger long. Flavor is just too one dimensional, no esters, no malt, what’s up? aracauna (2357), Georgia, USA Jan 20, 2005 A dark, amber brown body with a huge, booming head. The head drops slowly until it’s a chunky spread of foam over the beer. The aroma is rich, lots of lemon, browning bananas, caramel and cream. The flavor is sweet and hides the alcohol well. There’s kidn of a candi sugar flavor in there as well. JadoreBlanche (114), London, Ontario, Canada Jan 20, 2005 Bottle: Pours a dark brown body with a creamy thick white head that lasts all the way to the bottom of the galss. Aromas of sweet malts, hops, and slight fruit. Tatse is sweet, malty, and slightly sour. Nice aftertaste! highlandlad (1258), Sydney, Australia Jan 19, 2005 For a Belgian double, this is oddly skinny. It looks great - pours the colour of dark rum, with a big, lasting head and great lace. The nose is promising - sweet and fruity, with some cookie-like malt characters. However, it lacks body, coming up thin and almost fizzy wine-like. Sweetish flavours and it carries its 8% abv well. Inferior to the Trippel. (Bottle) rlgk (3377), Vårgårda, Sweden Jan 16, 2005 Pours amber with a weonderful head. Fruit aroma with malty and sweet notes. Malty and fruity flavor and turns into a quite mild finish. muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA Jan 12, 2005 33 cl bottle. Nearly opaque, cloudy brown-magenta with a giant soft lasting head...yeast, caramel and raisins in the rough but pleasurable nose, touches of oranges...grapy, sweet-sour, lightly alcoholic body, a bit lactic and perhaps too young, or not fully fermented? It’s ok, but something’s missing... Shag (1922), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA Jan 10, 2005 A reddish brown appearance with a moderate sized head and good lacing. The aroma is very chocolatey with some toffee, alcohol, and raisins. The flavor is quite sweet with milk chocolate and caramel. Some dark fruit is lurking about. It has a carbonated mouthfeel as well. Very good
