Nearly opaque, cloudy brown-magenta with a giant soft lasting head...yeast, caramel and raisins in the rough but pleasurable nose, touches of oranges...grapy, sweet-sour, lightly alcoholic body, a bit lactic and perhaps too young, or not fully fermented? It’s ok, but something’s missing... Shag (1923), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA

The aroma is very chocolatey with some toffee, alcohol, and raisins. The flavor is quite sweet with milk chocolate and caramel. Some dark fruit is lurking about. It has a carbonated mouthfeel as well. Very good tupalev (2615), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jan 9, 2005 Bottle, LCBO 2004 Giftpack. Murky brown pour, good sized tan head. Weak aroma - slight cherries and wood notes. Mouthfeel is very very fizzy. Taste is overwhelmed by this over carbonation - it totally hides what flavours might be here, but like a nitro pour at a pub. What is here is a little spicy and finishes with a sharp bitterness, but honestly, this is just way too fizzy to be drinkable and enjoyable. Not hint of that 8% by the way. presario (2956), Calgary, Alberta, Canada
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Jan 4, 2005 Light reddish brown. Lasting fizzy head. Artificial sweetener and bubblegum aroma. Fizzy mouth feel. Flavour is not memorable. Best description is a Perrier Beer. Odeed (1673), Bakersfield, California, USA

i poured this double into my chimay glass and was greeted with a mudy brown body and a creamy off white head.i picked up a smell of caramel malts and not much else.the flavor was actually a nice blend of caramel malts and belgian yeast.this is pretty damn good and i persoanlly think its a bit underated. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 18, 2004 Very dark, cloudy brown. Actually, it is the most obscure belgian I’ve ever seen. Dark brown with a very large, medium brown head. Smells extremly odd: heavy malt, stinky cheese and old bay seasoning. Taste is malt, lots or raisins and plums but not too sweet, almost salty in a way. Very weird beer, gets points for originality. JonMoore (1561), Loughborough, Leicestershire, England
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 14, 2004 Hazy chestnut colour, with enormous , bubbly, tan coloured head. Very lively. Aroma is malty, caramel and spices. Taste is similar, with a dark fruity element. Medium mouthfeel, quite highly carbonated but smooth and very drinkable. Alcohol is well hid. Very good. iam (369), Mississauga, Ontario, Canada
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Dec 13, 2004 Pours a dark red colour with a big frothy head. Sour citrus and light spice aroma. Citrus taste almost like a lemonade but with a malt taste also. Some bitterness. A disappointment
