Lubiere (4463), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Oct 11, 2004 Ommegang fest. bottled. Clear brown ale with light sweet caramel aroma. Light spices and ginger with sweet fruity malt taste and smooth alcohol finish. Hugerat (432), somerville, Massachusetts, USA Oct 5, 2004 I found this one to be really enjoyable. Dark, murky reddish brown color with a persistent head. Flavor is all malt but it isn’t too sweet, rather well blanced. Raisins, molasses and brown sugar with a creamy mouthfeel. Crosling (1854), Loveland, Colorado, USA Oct 3, 2004
Pours a murky hazelnut dark reddish brown with a large frothy head that leaves a descent little lace on my goblet.
Nose is of cardboard, caramel, a stack of paper, plums, herbs and is pretty yeasty. Blah.
Tastes pretty good though. Full in the mouth. Slighty herbal with loads of dark fruits especially plums and grapes. Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Sep 27, 2004 olor’s a dark burgundy, with ruby highlights, and huge, billowy, creamy tan head stands above. My superlatives end there, as I encounter one of the simplest "abbey dubbels" I’ve yet encountered. Aroma: small suggestions of nuts, cream, dark fruits(cherry, grapes), little hints of toffee, and there may be elargely to a fault, for there’s precious little of the deep complexity we find in favorite dubbels, Ommegang, or Maredsous. Malt is king, here, hops are hidden, blasts of carbonation hit the palate now and again. Finish is, "okay", there’s a minor grainy grit in the texture, but, alas, this is a rather ordinary brew for the style
YourDarkLord (1800), Urbana, Illinois, USA Sep 23, 2004 Copper with a huge, frothy beige head. I liked this better than the Tripel but not by much. Fruity aroma. Maybe banana. Some floral and caramel. Nicely complex. Smooth feeling in the mouth. Flavor was of fruit macerated in spirits. Brandied fruit. Pleasant. Nate (2533), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 15, 2004 Big molasses smell, sulfurous sweet and tangy, masticated raisin, malty, Fig Newtons. Deep ruby-brown clear with foamy off-white lacing head. Medium watery body with active carbonation. Malty with medium acidity, molasses sour, Fig Newton and raisin. Sweet-sour remains througout, with some alcohol. Light hoppy bitterness at finish, with chalky nutty after. This is on the brink of being really good, but the tart characteristic is not quite balanced with the sweetness of the raisin-y malts. Cornfield (4892), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Sep 9, 2004 Updated: Oct 22, 2005This pours a hazy, dark brown color with a touch of red. The head is thick and light brown. Nice fruity aroma. Makes for a very carbonated mouthful. Clean malty taste with a floral hop finish. Not bad.

Pjones6738 (500), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Aug 30, 2004 Dark brown color, with a very thick brown head. Slightly sweet aroma. Hmm...I’m halfway through my glass of this, and I’m having trouble getting a good reading on it. Nice rich mouthfeel, but a dry aftertaste. Slightly fruity. Not enough to this beer.
