MiP (8793), Sønderborg, Denmark Aug 27, 2004 Bottle. Dark brown colour. Cloudy. Plenty big light brown head. Malty and a little sour. Not much flavour for a dubbel. An 8% ABV beverage should taste of more. vanvenlo (794), Glen Iris, Australia Aug 26, 2004 8 May 2004 - Stone fruit malt aroma. Cloudy red brown colour. Sweet fruit hop malt dies that has a shortish taste to back of the tongue. Bitter hop and a fizzy lightness disolve. ThomasE (5179), Copenhagen, Denmark Aug 24, 2004 Pours a reddish brown with a big light brown head. aroma is malty with lots of fruit. Flavor is sweet and malty with some raisin, finishes of with a nice hoppy bitterness. Cobra (1060), In a van, down by the river, Maryland, USA Aug 24, 2004 11.2 oz. / 330 ml. brown, stubbie Belgian bottle. My bottle says Double, not Dubbel. No freshness date seen, but a cryptic date code on the back label. Part of the six pack of Belgian Ales I bought at Rips. Poured out a deep caramel brown, but clear, not hazy or cloudy. It has a huge tan colored head that hung around until the bottom of glass. Lasting head is an understatement.
Some malts and caramel in the aromas, some candi sugar too. Not much in the way of hop aromas, but has an earthy hopiness to
the flavor. Somewhat sweet, malty and rich. Medium mouthfeel coats the tongue slightly. Finishes somewhat sweet, but not to the point of being cloying. Uriel (144), San Jose, California, USA Aug 22, 2004 Cloudy brown color. Very sweet, sort of musky aroma, some cereal. Little or no head. Sweet flavor, some clover honey notes, with coffee flavor at the end. omnivore (270), San Francisco, California, USA Aug 22, 2004 Pours a deep murky brown with a quickly evaporating tan head. Richly sweet aroma with hints of oak and cotton candy. Surprisingly UNsweet flavor. Malty and airy on the tongue. Leaves a faint bitter and alcoholy tang on the back of the tongue. MrManning (1634), London, Ontario, Canada Aug 21, 2004 Bottle at Chester’s in Hamilton, Ontario. Pours a dark body with a long lasting creamy off white head. Aroma is sweet coffee with some hops present. Taste is malty sweetness, coffee with some sour notes lingering. Nice aftertaste lingers as well. Decent brew! Retorp (2154), Tampa, Florida, USA Aug 17, 2004 Updated: Aug 12, 2005Bottle at Yeoman’s Road Pub in Tampa. I love this stuff. Caramel and raisin dominate the flavor. Pours like a dream into a belgian style glass. Gets more complex as it warms up. It’s not quite as good as Gulden Draak, but it is solid.
