SledgeJr (2957), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Aug 14, 2004 Updated: Jul 18, 2007In the bottle. This was a little diasppointing compared to the Tripel. Dark brown in color. Big foamy head. No pronounced flavors that one is accustomed to in a fine Belgian ale. Malty, raisin taste is there, but it just doesn’t bash you over the head. Pretty tasty beer to drink with pork. UPDATE 7/18/7: In the 330 mL bottle from Beertopia. This beer has not improved. Too weak in body and a fizzy, salty palate. A good-looking beer in the glass, but still does not impress. Finishes very harsh and biting on the tongue. Goblincat (356), Westland, Michigan, USA Aug 6, 2004 Pours dark brown with thick tan head that dies quickly. Not much nose... Maybe some raisin and spice. Taste is kind of flat with some mild malt and a little yeast. Overall a little bland. LiamPatrick16 (124), Montgomery, New York, USA Jul 29, 2004 dark look to it, but it was light in my mouth. bittersweet and full flavored, a little weird tasting. bierkoning (5987), La Tropica, Netherlands Jul 28, 2004 Malty aroma with peach and a hint of cinnamon. Long lasting big frothy head. Sweet, in fact a bit too sweet with some cinnamon, licorice, peach and metal. Bland, sweet and a bit disappointing. spkldhenlvr24 (446), Newburgh/Buffalo, New York, USA Jul 27, 2004 Pretty good brew. Dark ruby appearance with a good size off-white head. Fruity, maltly aroma. Flavor was very sweet. Kinda thick, but very smooth going down. HighGravity (890), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Jul 13, 2004 Dark and frothy. Dry and simple with an acidic finish. Lacks complexity. An everyday Belgian Double. TheBeerGod (3143), Newport News, Virginia, USA Jul 12, 2004 Pours a dark clouded brown with a monstrously tall head. Aroma is semisweet but there’s some sour notes to it. There’s some cocoa, spice, malt, and some yeast notes. The taste leans towards more chocolate but it has some sour fruit and spice in it. Hints of yeast as well. The palate is a bit tart and carbonated. It finishes sweet-sour with some cocoa in it. Odd beer. Decent but I don’t think I’d go out of my way to find it again. hopdog (5525), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 12, 2004 Poured a medium to dark brown with a large, quickly dimishing, brown head. Yeast and sweet malt aromas. Malty, caramel, sweet, and spicy tastes.
