An ok double. Hazy brown with a nice head that never completely disappeared. Nose demonstrated some pronounced esters, subtle spice, and a bready background. The sweetness was tame and not overpowering, nice blend of spiciness, malt, and overall body to balance the alcohol. Best around 58 fahrenheit. Worthwhile and approachable, but not a champion double.

All the beers I picked up tonight, was because of the label artwork, as trival as that may sound. This one went well with my dinner, but was never really that fulfilling. Thick and slightly syrupy, more like a brown ale, with a very heavy mouth feel. It never stopped foamin once I opened it, huge and rich and creamy, but lacking somewhere.

I love labels with monks on them. Aroma had some sweet cabbage, slightly bready notes as well. A boring, bitter sweet taste, with candy sugar edges...didnt come together very well. One of the worst dubbels I have come across.

Bottle. Amber-brown, nice smooth and big head. Very representative of the style. Thick mouthfeel, very brandy-esque flavor. It would be cool to have a big foamy mug of this stuff.

Very nice, full bodied abbey dubbel. Strong alcohol flavor which passes relatively quickly. Very easy to see how monks were able to fast on this beer.

Largish brown head, faint toasty aroma that drops off too quickly. Dark reddish-brown color. Standard dark taste but doesn't stay with you for too long. Not the finest example of this style, but still reasonably decent.

Carbonation is extreme and is harsh on the roof of my mouth. Doughy and flowery, the taste mimics the nose in it's faintness. Sweet at the end, but bland and boring overall.

Ok, this is the second GLobal Beer Network beer i've tried, and this is the second with a funky-ass label. maybe it's a picture story...something about a monk, a crane, and a church. i dunno. the description was right about the luscious feeling in the mouth. sadly, it's a wincy bit effervescent for what i'd expect in a beer. good, but not amazing.

Pours a clear deep ruby color, with a good sized head. Banana/yeast aroma, stale taste. Not much going on here.
