Very dark, coffee color - full rich body - staying head - effervescent nose - soft velvet feeling in the mouth - luscious. Malt character with a hoppy aftertouch. Monks used to fast on this type of beer for 40 days! No food, only beer.

330ml bottle, poured into Leffe chalice. Colour was dark auburn, small tanned head which didnít last long although some lacing was retained. Aroma was yeast, a hint of cranberry and liquorice. Tasted cranberry, carrot and berries, yeast strain seemed to be the same as other Van Steenberge beers. Well carbonated, slightly thick body, smooth. Overall hid the booze well, which is always a plus point, nice beer to accompany a heavy meal.

Bottle. Lidl. Clear, deep copper colour. Thin, dense, glossy, unbroken, beige head. Good looker. Nose is sugary, vinous, bready and nutty. Taste is sugary sweet. Some vine fruit, raisiny dryness. Sweet, thin and estery. Thin mouthfeel with too much fizz. Sweet, nutty finish. Doesnít feel the ABV, but even at Lidl prices, I wouldnít bother with this one again.

Dedicated to Gary for tipping me off about the mixed six pack of Belgians at lidl and because he is a tosser. Bottle. Brown beer with medium head with some lacing. Lightly carbonated. Aroma of brown bread and candy sugar. Taste is brown bread, malts and some earth. Good.

Bottle - clear reddish brown, low carbonation, small lacing at sides only. Strong caramel aroma, ting on tongue and in mouth. Ok tasting but but too much ting.

Bottle acquired as part of a Christmas care package from the aunt. Poured into pint glass based on being too lazy to look for another glass. Deep brown cola color with an aggressive amount of nearly tan head. Not getting very much on the nose...maybe some malt and a little bit of hop characteristic which comes as a bit of a surprise. Taste is pretty mild but there are the traditional Belgian dark fruits coming through. It incorporates roasted malts, caramel, and toffee. Some bready characteristics. Soft mouthfeel, effervescence, and a really enjoyable finish. Feeling more impressed by this one as consumption continues. Not necessarily an upper tier dubbel but overall a decent representation. Iím going to add this to the list of beers to have on the next international visit to Brussels as a fresher version may enhance the score even more.

Iím not getting much flavor at all out of this one. It tastes watery. I donít see myself drinking this one again. There isnít a single outstanding quality in my opinion...disappointing.
