Good dubbel. More and have nothing to add, no frills. Not the best in style.

Drank with Patrick and Bram at Piet Huisman 24-1-2014. Okay beer. Slight chocolate taste, but the taste is not expressive, a bit faint. The beer is thin. The aftertaste is bitter and very little sour.

11.2 oz. bottle from Pringle’s. Appearance: 2 finger tan head, brown/copper color, cloudy, light to moderate lacing. Aroma: sweet cherry, caramel, musty and earthy yeast, slightly cough-syrupy. Palate: medium body, average carbonation, dry finish, oily texture. Taste: sweet caramel into notes of cherry fruitiness, finish is slightly thinner cherry and maybe light alcohol. Overall, pretty drinkable, but nothing amazing. Balance is a bit off and a bit too much cherry.

Bottle @ home. Pours a deep brown with a chunky tan head. Aroma of chocolate, caramel and alcohol. Sweet beginning but a slight sourness and light bitterness at the end. The roasted malts also come out as well with an almost smoky flavor.

Darker than used to for the style, but fits much closer than the tripel did. Hints of bread fruit and spices throughout. Not bad.

Bornem Dubbel is a technically well executed Abbey and good, too. Dark brown pour with a frothy off-white head that stays till the last drop. Pleasant floral hop aroma. Solid malt backbone in the taste with those hop notes in the finish. Bornem Dubbel hits it just right for an enjoyable brew.

suurjuust (1298) - ESTONIA - JAN 13, 2015
Clear amber brown beer, retentive tan foam. Nose is caramel, toast, citrus notes, dried fruit, mild spice an sweetness. Flavor is a lot simpler than the aroma with toasty malt, dark fruit, sweetness, vague and weak hops in the finish. Not "getting" this one, though the nose is pretty nice.

asedzie (624) - San Francisco, California, USA - JAN 1, 2015
Bottle. Deep brown pour with rocky beige head. Aroma has figs, very light and warm clove or allspice like spiciness, rich round yeast notes. Flavor is not as satisfyng as the rich nose - light dough, cocoa-ish roasted grain notes finishes with an abrupt and dry finish of dried herbs and hop bitterness. Palate is not as rich or textured as the best examples of this style. Overall, a pretty good dark belgian, but doesn’t measure up with the genuine abbey ales.

Appearance is large white head with amber. Aroma isn’t very memorable. Taste is some malt and spice with not much of an alcohol kick. Overall not one of the better Belgians.
