Very dark, coffee color - full rich body - staying head - effervescent nose - soft velvet feeling in the mouth - luscious. Malt character with a hoppy aftertouch. Monks used to fast on this type of beer for 40 days! No food, only beer.

Fresh-ish As Bornem and again as alias Uilenspiegelbier, 33cl bb 2004 shared@ BBF ’15 Vintage Tasting ZO, merci. - Overwhelming Van Steenberge candi sugars and phenol profile of the fresh Bornem version thins out over time into: aspartame and dusty sugars, sour peach marmelade, with a leathery rather than velvet touch. Still more enjoyable aged...

Pours dark amber/brownish with a stable off-white head. Good lacing. Fairly well dubbel aroma. Yeasty, malty and mildly spicy. Something tarty as well. Also a bit alcoholic, which disturbs me a bit. Taste is mildly sweet. Clear notes of the caramel, some sugar, something roasty and little notion of the spices. However, it got overwhelmed by acidic and metallic notes afterwards. It looks like if the alcohol destroyed a lot of the taste. After a few sips, the alcohol gave everything a bit of a sour, metallic, smoked ham, foot odor kind of taste. Nothing tasty at all. Palate is far too watery for a dubbel. Clearly a miss in terms of taste, palate and balance.

Àroma of malt, bread, caramel, brown sugar, sweet dark fruits. Flavour is moderate to medium sweet with a light bittersweet finish. Didn’t care much for the sugary sweetness. Overall not a success.

Good dubbel. More and have nothing to add, no frills. Not the best in style.

Drank with Patrick and Bram at Piet Huisman 24-1-2014. Okay beer. Slight chocolate taste, but the taste is not expressive, a bit faint. The beer is thin. The aftertaste is bitter and very little sour.

11.2 oz. bottle from Pringle’s. Appearance: 2 finger tan head, brown/copper color, cloudy, light to moderate lacing. Aroma: sweet cherry, caramel, musty and earthy yeast, slightly cough-syrupy. Palate: medium body, average carbonation, dry finish, oily texture. Taste: sweet caramel into notes of cherry fruitiness, finish is slightly thinner cherry and maybe light alcohol. Overall, pretty drinkable, but nothing amazing. Balance is a bit off and a bit too much cherry.
