A wonderful mix of sweet and bitter. Very mellow and earthy flavors. Chocolate undertones. Smells of raisins. Beautiful hazy, ruby color.

Nice dark colour, not too fizzy...this is my kinda beer! Definately the best Belgian beer I’ve tried! And at 8% its pretty strong stuff, without tasting too alcoholic! Less taste of the alcohol than some 5% beers I’ve tried!

UPDATED: NOV 24, 2006 330ml bottle from the LCBO. I really wasn’t expecting much from this beer, but it definitely exceeded my expectations. It pours beautifully, with an immaculate head that maintains itself the whole beer through. The colour is nice, but perhaps a tiny bit on the gray side. The aroma is the weakest part of the beer, with way too much alcohol which drowns out everything else. Maybe some age would help with this, or at least even it out a little. The taste is very good, but a bit lacking in refinement and complexity when compared to a Westmalle or a Chimay Rouge. Overall a very solid beer, but at the same price as the aformentioned Trappiste ales, it’s not really a good value. It’s worth a try though, just for the sake of something different.

Dark Beer with great frothy head. Feels a bit heavy. A good bitterness and malt. My first Dubbel style, so I can’t compare to others of that style. Overall decent strong beer.

The head on this thing was ridiculous. A murky brown dubbel. Relatively complex, a good little beer.

Bottle: Pours a dark brown, with a light head which flattens out in a quick manner. Aroma was very good with straw, a perfume scent, maybe nutmeg and cinnamon, and what I would describe as a gingerbread or pfefferneuse. A little light bodied with only a metallic tinge standing out at the start. Caramel, toffee, with the faintest smoke flavor hiding in there. Flavor is a bit less than I would have liked, but the aroma was pleasant.

11.2 oz bottle pours slow and smooth with a distinct carmel/hops odor and dark color. Very carbonated at first and the head has staying power. Taste did not match the aroma. Would have been outstanding if it had but instead very disappointing.

nice, yeasty aroma. pleasantly dark color, my pour didn’t yield much head. bitter on the finish, but not unpleasantly so.

Pours a dark brown with a large, fizzy light coloured head that does not fully go away. Smells wonderfully of carmally apple cider. Tastes almost the same, but with a light beer undertone. Very sweet and satisfying!
