COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Very dark, coffee color - full rich body - staying head - effervescent nose - soft velvet feeling in the mouth - luscious. Malt character with a hoppy aftertouch. Monks used to fast on this type of beer for 40 days! No food, only beer.

Papillon (280) - Sudbury, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 30, 2010
330 mL Bottle. Deep copper-ruby body with a very foamy pale beige head that settles to a tenacious layer with lots of lace. Rich beery aroma of sweet malts, crystal malt, hints of raisins, prunes, and other dark fruits, an innuendo of bubblegum, and pungent hops and walnuts to cap it off. The flavor has a refreshing lemon rind sourness to it besides the sweet complex malts that speak up in the aftertaste. Bubblegum lingers in the finish and then fades off cleanly. A rare gem on the tongue.

Bottle 330ml. Exceptional beer. Aroma is earthly, with vanilla, caramel, chocolate, and berries. Taste is sweet with bitter notes, average length. Palate is sticky, and full bodied. Ruby colour, with a frothy head.

Dark copper color, subtle and smooth flavor, with emphais on that classic Belgian profile of banana and cloves, maybe some plum and chocolate. Sweet. A thing of beauty.

Bottle. This beer formed a large sized head with fine-small sized bubbles that completely dissipated. The body was ruddy/murky and carbonated with an orange-brownish hue. The nose was malty, caramel, spicy, alcohol notes and vinegar. The flavor was absolutely delicious...malty, caramel, spicy, alcohol, sweet, and fruity. The mouthfeel was very smooth and this was a medium-full bodied beer with sparse lacing. A perfect beer for the dinner that thedm and I enjoyed and a good beer on a snowy and icy day.

Pours a dark brown with a large, fizzy light coloured head that does not fully go away. Smells wonderfully of carmally apple cider. Tastes almost the same, but with a light beer undertone. Very sweet and satisfying!

UPDATED: AUG 25, 2011 This is a fine example of the Double style. One I need to keep on hand a bit more often. +++ Sampled from an 11.2 oz brown bottle this brew pours a dark red/brown color with a large foamy beige head that lingers forever and produces great lacing. The scent is sweet, yeasty and fruity and has a mild amount of flowery hops and chocolate. The flavor is very malty and fruity with solid notes of cherry and raspberry and a light nutty undertone and a hint of molasses. The texture is bubbly and the body is fairly full. The malt and sour fruits really come out as it warms and the finish is nicely long. Excellent.

A very worthy dubbel. Rich yet mellow, well balanced. A slight currant taste to it. I have a great taste for almost all of the Von Steenberge products. Unlike some on this page I think these are some of the finest craft beers in the world.

This bottled brew poured a large sized head of foamy finely sized light brown colored mostly lasting bubbles that left behind a poor lace and a hazy carbonated brown colored body. The aroma was very nice with notes of brown beer malt and caramel malts. THe mouthfeel was also very nice with t atingly feeling and a lingering flavor of mildly vinuous caramel malts. This fine brew is well balanced. It is a beer to love and cherish. More please. And my last sip even came through with a beer shiver! The DM's seal of apporval!
