Very dark, coffee color - full rich body - staying head - effervescent nose - soft velvet feeling in the mouth - luscious. Malt character with a hoppy aftertouch. Monks used to fast on this type of beer for 40 days! No food, only beer.

33 cl bottle. Pours a dark brown color, kicks up a big tan head in my tulip glass. Smells lightly sweet without the extra sugar smell of some Belgians. Takes me a while to get to the beer through all that foam, but what I get is a slightly fizzy body surrounding a pretty fresh malt taste. This bottle sat in the un-air-conditioned Foremost Liquors for goodness knows how long, but it’s held up pretty nicely. Definite brown malts at work, with fruitiness and slight tart of apple and vanilla. A bit of stickiness on my lip shows that this is still sweet, but well balanced. Background notes of ginger, lemon and nutmeg, too. A nice, complex brew.

Gylden brun noe tåkete med fingerhøyt beige skum. Lukter fudge, blomster og noe svisker. Fyldig. Smaker sjokolade, noe bitter brent karamell og alkohol, noe salt.

From bottle at Ro & Go, Zagreb, with TO 07.10.15. Dark copper. Very persistent pale brown head and lacing. Aroma of sweet berries of the forest and medium dark malt. Similar taste. Fruity, with good drinkability. Fulfilling these customers’ expectations.

33cl bottle.(Labelled as Berkel Dubbel) Appearance: Brownish with a 1 mm head leaving a few spots of lacing. Aroma: Sweet candy sugars Taste: Sweet candy sugars , malts, hint of coffee and caramel in the back. (Haagse hopjes style.) Cloying sweetness. Medium body, below average carbonation. It gets better when aged but fresh I do ot see any reason to buy a Van Steenbeege Dubbel.
