mgermani (862), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Jan 12, 2008 Pours a slightly hazy pale gold with an immense head. Pungent aroma of spice, apple, and alcohol. Pear & apple in the taste - reminds me of apple cyser, in fact, with the sweetness. Strong alcohol and a warming finish with nary a sign of any hoppy bitterness, just a slight dryness to the finish. Really really overcarbonated, difficult to work out the carbonation when it has such a wild head. Body is light and crisp. The alcohol makes this a real sipping tripel, and the fruitiness is engaging. I like! Perfect for a slow summer evening shared with friends, for you’d really have to work at downing this bottle in a short period of time on your own. Beershine (2678), Hue, Vietnam Jan 12, 2008 (33cl bottle) Luminescent but pale color with lots of bubbles, white foamy head and killer lace patterns. All downhill from there. Smell is simplistic: a touch of honey and dates but not much else and slightly soured. Mouthfeel is buggy: too spiky/prickly and unappealingly harsh on entry but softens up if you let it linger in the mouth. However, there’s not much to keep you interested in doing that because there isn’t much taste in this beer. I really had to search for something and mainly came up empty. Reminds me a little of bad mead. A little bit of a struggle to drink and I winced after more than one sip. A good one to save for the end of the night when you couldn’t care less about what you’re putting down your gullet. Or for non-discerning company... cheapdark (2011), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 11, 2008 Aroma is rather pleasant to the olfactory. Perhaps a little rubber on the nose. Ubiquitous pale yellow clear beer appearance. Barely any carbonation but does have a slight creamy tingle down the throat.Mildly bitter but hides the alky content well for a 9%. Overall not bad for such a high % alky content. Expected it to be more punishing to the palate, but it wasn’t. Not as refined as other trips such as Chimay , Church brew millenium or grimbergen. JoeNovice (11), USA Jan 9, 2008 Updated: Mar 30, 2008The Bornem Triple (on draft) is a smooth drink with no excessive hoppyness or malt sweetness. The beer is balanced and a CLEAN finish.
Codythegreat (133), Carrollton, Georgia, USA Jan 6, 2008 OK. I think that this might be my first abbey tripel so... Pours yellow with a white head. For some reason every belgium beer I get always spews on me like it was a shaken coke or something. The flavor is OK. Malty, hoppy with a dry finish. I kinda thought it would be better considering it was a belgium beer. I drank this out of a tumbler because it don’t have and trappist glasses. I also drank it by myself instead of with my beer drinking friend because I didn’t want it to go bad. Good luck at Benning CIPS514! hughie (3016), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England Jan 6, 2008 Hazy gold with a large white head. Sour yeasty aroma. Sour alcoholic taste, spicy with a dry finish. Not the most exciting tripel. matt7215 (942), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Dec 21, 2007 330 ml bottle. birthday present from my wife. pours hazy yellow with a huge white head. lots of carbonation keeps the head rebuilding after every sip. big spicey, yeasty aromas. flavours are mostly yeast with some grassy hops at the end. a texbook example of a triple. enjoyable but not the best beer in this style. timfoolery (482), California, USA Dec 16, 2007 More head than beer, this one was reminicient of what I expect beer and champagne tastes like mixed together. Odd flavor, but also very unique.
