Jerre (1755), Waregem, Belgium Dec 1, 2006 330 ml bottle. Cloudy light, pale peachy-yellow with white head. Aroma is sour but then turns sweeter, almost getting a brown-sugary malty sweet aroma. Mouthfeel is soft. Flavor lightly lemony-citrus with some breadiness, sweeter malt and yeast flavor. Complex and a great palate. This beer find you in differents etikets.
french tickler (642), Aylmer, Quebec, Canada Nov 27, 2006 Drank in a trappist glass. Golden hazy poor under a nice off-white sticky head. Aromas are floral, caramel, orange peelings and bananas. Sweet creamy feel with a nice dry finish. You can feel the alcohol. Just the right bitterness. Very well balanced. Sweet hints of caramel and citrus. Maybe a little to carbonated but stiil impressive! raymondwave (867), Finland Nov 22, 2006 330 ml bottle included on a "Exclusive Belgian Ales" -pack of bottle fermented beers bought from Achel abbey store. Quite high on alcohol and it tastes quite much too. Good palate with lively carbonation. ogivlado (3036), Zagreb, Croatia Nov 21, 2006 Bottled(330ml). –Shared with Doggythedog at the Hopdevil in Zagreb
Clear golden coloured, huge white head, lively carbonation, dusty white wine nose. Aroma is malty, faint hoppy and slight spicy with very odd and unpleasant frozen meat touch. Certainly better than Dubbel . TheJester (694), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Nov 19, 2006 330 mL bottle from LCBO gift pack. Yellow-gold with thick creamy head. The only aroma that stands out is alcohol. Taste is bitter, then sweet, then, as the ad says, a "hoppy dry long finish" (sic). Sticks to your tongue. Some banana, some yeast, some citrus, lots of alcohol. Very heavily carbonated. Lots going on, and none of it is subtle. stiffy42j (67), Brunswick, Georgia, USA Nov 17, 2006 pours light yellow with huge fluffy white head, smells sweet with strong alchohol ... taste alot better than the dubbel. Sweet with alot of malt flavor. I’d drink again Doggythedog (1541), Split, Croatia Nov 14, 2006 Bottle shared with ozujsko at the Hopdevil in Zagreb After tasting the dubbel I didn’t have high hopes for this one. It poured a huge white fluffy head on top of a clear golden coloured body, with lively streams of carbonation all around. The nose was very faint, just some hints of dust and white wine. The taste was... well, better than the other two beers I’ve had before that one. Niceish maltiness that turns to a dull, slightly acidic end, a bit grainy, somewhat fruity, a faint touch of sulphur, quite tingly on the tongue, crude hoppy aftertaste and all in all, a substandard tripel. StompBrockmore (300), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Nov 9, 2006 330ml bottle - pours hazy yellow/orange with a bone white head. This is very fizzy, you can see it in the head - highly carbonated. Too carbonated. Aroma of bananas and yeast, and alcohol (unfortunately). The taste is ripe fruit, citrus, yeast, and the alcohol is definitely there - not nearly as well hidden as say, the Chimay Triple. The biggest problem with this beer is the carbonation. It’s almost like a soda pop it’s so heavily carbonated and there is hardly any creaminess...very thin in the mouth. Needs to be thicker. Leaves a lingering after taste of alcohol and the finish is actually quite sour and astringent. This could be so much better were it creamier and less fizzy. It’s certainly not bad, but as it stands it’s actually quite dissatisfying for an Abbey Triple considering what else is out there.
