maltdog (509), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Nov 10, 2004 Cloudy amber, nearly opaque, floaties. Sparse sudsy head and little apparent carbonation. No lacing. Fascinating menagerie of aromas: lime leaf, caramel, black pepper, barnyard, pina colada, allspice and ginger. Tropical fruit flavors- pineapple/honeydew/plantain/coconut- lightly sweet, spicy, and yeasty. Almost syrupy viscosity. After swallowing, the flavor evolves into toasted nut and caramel, and then a more intense butterscotch and candy corn. Long caramel aftertaste, sticky sweet and a little tingly. Less sugar and more bitterness would be a vast improvement. Hoppy dry finish, my ass. DerWeg (748), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Nov 8, 2004 Updated: Apr 16, 200533cl cool. Pale gold, large bubble carbonation, coarse head. Big aroma pineapple, dry coconut, pear, fresh cider. Taste citrus, spruce, pear, pie spices, apple, controlled acute hop dryness towards end. Banana estery smoothness counters hard-cider alcohol feel. Very aromatic Tripel but not sweet, with flowery hops. Has med-dense body, dry hop palate/tongue. Cool It finishes off a bit like a good pilsenser but with lingering pear. Warming up it goes a bit funky, with odd grainy off-notes in the flavor, and harsher alcohol bite. Doesn’t end well at room temp. I think it lacks the completeness and integration of other tripels but I guess it’s unique and in many ways good fior the price. (6 pack at LCBO.) Joeh (1908), Buckinghamshire, England Nov 7, 2004 Pours fairly clear golden, soapy head. Aroma is very fruity, alcohol, metallic. Flavour is malty, sour, rotten fruit. Really not very nice, and not worth further review. pintbypint (1002), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Nov 7, 2004 330ml brown bottle. Yeasty, spicey aroma. Poured cloudy gold. Giant whipped cream head. Yeasty notes continue in flavour, bit of spiciness, wheathy notes, some orange/lemon, and malt. Quick finish, dryish. dirkules (613), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Nov 2, 2004 Updated: Nov 5, 2004hazy golden yellow with a fizzy white head. It’s got an aroma of polished leather, cabbage, and citrus which is certainly interesting. The flavor is grapefruit, ginger, with a carbonated smooth aftertaste. Not the best Van Steenberge by any stretch... WabashMan (798), Noblesville, Indiana, USA Nov 2, 2004 I actually enjoyed this one better than most users seem to. It had a nice crispness to complement a good flavor. An easy drinking Tripel, and a nice change of pace from heavier versions. Not GREAT, but good enough. IPFreely (1470), Lewiston, New York, USA Oct 29, 2004 Cloudy gold, big white head with large bubbles. You get some citrus, some spice, and a decent amount of yeast with this one. Tingly mouthfeel, some alcohol present, almost too much, but smoothness kind of balances it out. A decent tripel, but not top notch. bluevegie (2169), Perth, Australia Oct 26, 2004 Huge fluffy white head on top of a murky pale yellow body. Aroma is of lemon, spice and fruit. More spice mixed with lemon upfront in the taste, alcohol shows up at mid-palate but not overpowering. Ok for a triple but nothing outstanding.
