eleusis (70), Denver, Colorado, USA Oct 23, 2004 I like the aroma, its light and yeasty and refreshing. Color is cloudy yellow. A little sweet, a little alcohol after bite. I prefer their augustijn beer better, but this was decent. Not watery at all. pantani (1894), Salinas, California, USA Oct 16, 2004 Rating #300- Aroma is apple cider, cinnamon, and slight alcohol. Light body, with a thick white head. Taste is almost like a schnapps, alcohol isn’t covered up well, not overly sweet. Decent, but I will never buy this again. Shag (1922), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA Oct 14, 2004 The bier poured a light murky yellow color with a very large fluffy white head. The aroma is lemony with a nice yeasty overtone. The flavor is somewhat spicy with some ginger and lemons. I also catch some bananas and wheat. The aftertaste is slight sour with a nice soft mouthfeel. Not a Triple that will cause you to dance the gig, but it is pleasent in all its simplicity. Steib (574), Queen Creek, Arizona, USA Oct 13, 2004 Light golden color with a big bold head. Sweet fruity aroma, has some accents of honey. First taste is acidic, lightly tart moderatly balanced. Hoppy and spicey, the flavor is just all over the place, not very appealing. Like a rock falling from the mountain it starts out great then crashes. Saarlander (1577), Saarlouis, Germany Oct 7, 2004 Updated: Nov 24, 2005The first sip was brutal, beer had a big head, cloudy gold, this beer is a cloudy gold color. I liked it more as it warmed up, but better beers are made by this brewery
Re-rate 11-23-05 Very smooth on the palate, sourness at first, same cloudy gold, but a better bottle this time, pretty good. Crosling (1854), Loveland, Colorado, USA Oct 3, 2004 Light peach. Slighty hazy. Huge, frothy, perfect belgian head. Nice lacing with wonderful retention.
The nose is odd. Mulched apples and pears. Slightly spicy, very sweet and quite musty (mild paint thinner.)
I’m trying to sip this ale without smelling it. Everything about this beer is repulsive. Unbearable.
After Gulden Draak and Piraat I was beginning to like Van Steenberge but I don’t know what the hell this is. Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Sep 27, 2004 Pale golden color, and a majestic, lacey white head. Aroma is typical for a tripel, but nothing extraodinary: citrusy, sugary, spicy, but, still, fresh, nice. Texture’s a touch rough at first, very full occupance on the tongue, but it pleasantly mellows out. Flavor’s a touch dry, body is light, everything’s in order, but I find this beer quite a bit boring. Lacks in the taste department, and contains almost none of the delightful spark I love in a tripel. Very simple and unimpressive.
zathrus13 (1288), Mount Laurel, New Jersey, USA Sep 25, 2004 Pale yellow color. Aromas of yeast, malt, and some spice. Flavors of earth, spice, yeast, and slightly sour malt. Alcohol is there, but it doesn’t seem like 9%. Not bad...
