yumyum (118), barrie, Ontario, Canada Feb 26, 2009 I found this beer unremarkable. I found the aroma very faint of fruit an a sliight almost wheaty smell. Palate was decent just nothing in the flavour profile really grabbed me. Was paired with leffe tripel and westmalle tripel.. Westmalle had the "fruitiness" and great aroma, leffe I found milder and seemed to almost have characteristics of a wheat beer , this one was in between and for some reason my least favourite of the 3 albeit still a decent enough brew ChainGangGuy (2523), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Feb 14, 2009 Appearance: Pours a clear, yellow body with a foamy, bright white head.
Smell: Sweetish, fruity scents with a light waft of fusel alcohol tempered by a nice overall floral bouquet to the nose.
Taste: Sweet malts with tastes of honey and table sugar. Solid amount of fruitiness halfway, with tastes of yellow apples, pears peelings, and, to a lesser degree, bananas. Lightly floral hop character and bitterness. Peppery, spicy alcohol character last in the taste. Sweetish, crisp finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium-high carbonation.
Drinkability: A decent tripel, but just as the Bornem Duddel came up a tad short, so to does their tripel. Paired well musically with the song "Cut Self Not" by Faraquet. eManu (172), Brussels, Belgium Feb 12, 2009 It pours a clear dark gold with a thin white head. its aroma are sweet citrus malts. Its flavors are strong bitter malts and very little sweet. A good beer but nothing special. GarrettB (494), Seattle, Washington, USA Feb 10, 2009 The Bornem Tripel is the best tripel I’ve had in a very long time, and I find myself satisfied not only by a content palate, but also with a renewed sense of excitement for the style. A thick head like crumpled cotton tops the beer, spanning about an inch, and the beer puffs up with a cloudy, grainy yellow look, with a slight blush of orange. The aroma is sweet and slightly soapy, and resplendent with fruits. Banana, pineapple, mango and papaya develop an extremely tropical bouquet, topped with a hit if cinnamon, as if it were a homemade pie. And the flavor doesn’t disappoint, even when expectations are high. Bubble gum, pineapple, mandarin orange, mango and papaya all grace my tongue, but this time they’re restrained by a balanced dryness. There’s no doubt that this is a sweeter tripel, but it’s by no means cloying, and skillfully, artfully balanced. This definitely ranks as one of my favorite tripels. fluffy (229), Florida, USA Feb 8, 2009 bright gold with a thick foam head. aroma is citrusy and yeasty. taste is tangy and mildly hoppy. a bit too hoppy in the aftertaste. not bad but offbalanaced. eh. KnN (714), Greenbelt, Maryland, USA Feb 3, 2009 Bottle. Cloudy yellow/orange color. Aroma is Belgian yeast, a little banana and some nice hop scent in the background. Flavor is malt, yeast and a good hoppy kick. This seemed hop forward for a Belgian, but was nice. Nothing spectacular though. pj1855 (154), Eagan, Minnesota, USA Jan 29, 2009 Slighty cloudy golden in color. Good sized white head. Aroma of sweet malt, spice, some banana. Fairly sweet initially balanced out by a dry hoppy finish. Alchohol is present but not too overpowering. This is an o.k. Triple but not one of my favorites.
