3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
33 cl bottle. Part of a sampler six of vSteen. beers from <a href=http://ratebeer.com/Place/illinois/oak-forest in Oak Forest, meaning it may have set awhile without air conditioning. Pours a pale yellow in a tulip glass, with a tinge of red, and fluffy white head. Heavy smell of Belgian sugars and a suggestion of wheat malts that I’m pretty sure are not there. Taste is immediately heady with alcohol and champagne effervescence, sweet and yet still pretty thick with malts. Despite having sat in the heat of a store, not much ale fruitiness here. Instead, it’s pretty well attenuated and turns dry a few sips later. Had it with some camembert cheese spread, which worked nicely. Some notes of straw, then noble and citrusy hops. Nice version of a style I like, anyway.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Licensed abbey beer with snow white, moussy, thick but quickly decreasing head and light golden blonde colour, clear but cloudy with protein veils after adding the deposit. Aroma of pale malts, dough, mild herbal hops, orange peel, apple, coriander, straw, pepper, young cheese and wodka-like alcohol, but also some ’chemical’ solvents. Malty, rounded onset, short sweetishness, restricted fruitiness with (too) strong carbonation, quickly turning grainy and ending in a herbal hoppy finish. Very average, another unambitious cliché beer from Van Steenberge.

2.9 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Fizzy and fairly bitter for a triple. I guess there is one big source of Belgian triple. Very similar to other Belgian triples.
Bottle from De Zwart in Wilnis.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Stubby bottle 330 ml at home, into a tulip glass. ABV 9%
Pours a golden yellow coloured beer, with a tall white head, froathy, losing half of its size quite fast but the remaining half has a good retention. Medium lacing on the glass.
Aroma is has plenty of fruity notes, mainly peaches, apricots, bubblegum, pears.
More pears on the taste, more fruity in general, some sugar too, apple juice, malts, quite fresh and refreshing.
Medium thin body with carbonation being on the higher side.
Overall nice beer, very drinkable.

Long day at work, picked this from the cellar. It bought it at Lidl a week ago, as part of a packet of six belgian beers. Poured into my tulip glass. ABV 9%.
Pale orange golden colour on the body wuth light activity in it. What it was great, was the foam. Almost three fingers tall, snow white in colour and with excellent retention, seemed like it stayed there for ages. When finally went down a bit, it had left a nice lacing around the glass.
Nice fruity aroma, with apricots, some banana notes, kind of yeasty too. Nice and discreet.
Nice bitter taste from the beginnig, very refreshing, just what I need right now. Fruity as well, although less than the aroma was promising but that doesn’t matter that much. The fruity notes have moved onto the aftertaste though, where they balance the bitterness a bit.
Medium thickness on the body, good carbonation. Fairly dry on the palate.
Overall nice tripel, I made a good choice picking this one up. Hopefully the 9% ABV will send me for a nap in a while too.

330 ml stubby bottle. This beer is mada exclusively for Slijterij Van Pernis, a beer shop in Arnhem, NL. Poured into a tulip glass. ABv 9%.
NIce colour, deep orange golden, with one and a half finger of persistent, soapy head, white in colour. light lacing stuck on the glass.
Fruity smell, along with some yeast and alcohol notes.
Quite bitter taste, even from the beginning. Some hops and fruity notes on the taste too. A bit metallic on the aftertaste, but nothing too bad. Mostly a pleasant bitterness present.
Thin to medium on the body, average carbonation. Fairly dry on the palate.
Overall a good everyday tripel.
