4.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Cobra (1079) - In a van, down by the river, USA - AUG 22, 2004
11.2 oz. / 330 ml. stubbie brown Belgian bottle. Part of a six pack of Belgian ales I bought at Rips. No freshness date seen, but none needed at 9% ABV either. Very fresh product here. Loud ppfffttt when opened. Almost like a bottle of fresh Coca-Cola. Poured out a pale golden yellow color, with a humongous white head at first. It slid back to lumpy islands of yeast floating on a sea of beer. Aromas are pretty much non-existent. Smells a little soapy to me.
Other than that, I can’t smell much. Slight maltiness about it, but nothing overpowering. Flavors are of fresh malts, slight horse blanket, and citrus. No alcohol aromas or flavors, same goes for the hops. Maybe a slight tang of Hallertau hops, but other than that, it’s not much. Slight dry biscuit flavors at the end. Very effervescent, almost champagne like. Constant bubbles rise from the bottom of my Chimay chalice, feeding the small but steady head. Finishes somewhat dry, but not overly so. A top notch triple in my book.

Tasted this in the Delirium Cafe, Brussels in April 2012, label has it as Old Buccaneer Reserve. 33cl bottle. Pours a golden amber in colour with a hick foam white head. Juicy mango fruit with golden syrup notes in the long aroma. Slick oily mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malts give a juicy tropical fruit medlay with mango, peach and honeydew melon to the fore. Floral citrus notes present in the fruity aftertaste which compliment the malt well. Finish has a warming alcohol edge to it with sweet golden syrup flavours full in the mouth. A decent Abbey Tripel.

Sampled in Damme under the name Maerlant Damse Triple. Golden blonde with a little fizz and a frothy head, in own long glass. Could pass as Duvel at first taste, tastes and still very familiar. Yeasty, dry and bitter. Good yeasty aroma, malt goes well with it.

whoa, this is an active one. golden hue large foamy white head with tons of retention. crockery sweetness, clove, and hint of alcohol in the nose. taste is well rounded sweet crackery, slight biscuit. light clove and pepper, this style is not terribly drinkable, but this is a nice sipper on a chilly damp night.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 SPDickerman (424) - Texas, USA - FEB 7, 2012
Pours clear golden with small white fizzy head. Smells crisp fruity, as triples do, with some malt and hop flavors underneath, hints of bread and earthy notes. Taste is a lot more like a sweet white wine, fruity, very mild bitterness and not much malt characteristic, but hints of bread. Full-bodied with a slick texture and lots of mouth-carbonation, Bornem Triple finishes with a faint dryness.
