2004 vintage on tap at the MI summer beer fest 2005--advertised as 20.5%. hugely alcoholic barleywine, leaves legs on the glass, just like a tumbler filled with an ounce or two of jameson. syrupy sticky and thick, but that’s how i like my barley wines. less alcohol would make this beer better (have i EVER said that before???)

2004 on draft at MSBF2005. Pours a dark amber color with some fizzy head that doesnt stay. Nose is caramel and bourbon with maybe some apple? taste is slow up frpnt with sopme nice sweet caramel and then a huge dry alcohol hit to the back of your mouth. The old face cringer.

12 oz. Bottle, 2003: On a Barley Wine drought lately, haven’t like the past couple I have tried, then again it may be the style all together. Poured an amber color, flat, no head, and very little apparent carbonation (like most I guess?) Big strong sweet nose, caramel, honey, and sweet liquor. Flavor reminded me most of Drambouie, overly sweet and syrupy.

On tap: Big caramel aroma with some bourbon and citrus. Dark transparent amber with no head. Real sweet up front. Apple, caramel, and bourbon. Finishes with a lot of apple. Nice alcohol warming affect in the finish without the big alcohol taste.

UPDATED: MAR 22, 2005 2004 vintage at the brewpub. Nice and sticky sweet. Taste reminded me of Bigfoot, which is a very good thing. I ended up scoring 6 bottles of 2003 vintage from the pub as well.

2003 bourbon barrel at the Mi. Brewers Fest. Malty, sickly sweet. Little head, copper brown in color. Alcohol is apparent. Not bad but not right. Would like to see this one aged.

2002 Vintage. Maple is the dominant trait of this big, syrupy sweet alco-monster. Very carbonated somehow and firey from the mouth to the belly. Another hardcore beer from Bo's. I really like the harsher, seemingly experimental stuff they were handing out at the Michigan Summer Beer Fest. "Balls front", some would say.

MIBG Fest: Dark brown-ruby colour with no head. Big aroma of brown sugar, maple & alcohol. Warm maple flavour, with a boozy burn that goes all the way down to the gut. More carbonation in the body than you might expect from such a big beer. I enjoyed it more than bigbadbear63, but I agree than some cellaring would do a good job of dulling the harsher edges. For now, be sure to sip it slowly!

At MBG Summer fest: Flat murky dark amber hue, no head. Huge maple sweetness, similiar to Sam Adams Triple Bock. Starts with a sweet sticky flavor and feel, finished with a massive alcohol burn on the chest and stomach. Some pine and molasses was detected once I was able to breath again. One not to drink very fast. This one doesn't even try to mask the alcohol level. Harsh, too much. Maybe a year or more of cellaring may do it some good, maybe.
