Commercial Description:
The strong stouts, otherwise known as “Imperial Stouts” that Great Britain brewed for the Imperial Russian court in the 1800’s had a strong porter counterpart that were brewed for the Baltic countries. These porters became part of these countries brewing traditions. These beers tend to be strong and full bodied, not very hoppy and are often actually brewed as lagers. Great with chocolate deserts!

This beer was spectacular! Nice flavor and alcohol was not overwhelming. A certain warmness left me wanting another.

Draught. Pours a dark cola brown with a tan head. The nose is musty with suggestions of chocolate and minimal soy sauce and coffee. The flavor is hearty with dark chocolate and even slightly oaty with toffee hinted at in the finish. This comes across more like a stout. It’s not a very faithful interpretation of the style, but I liked it nonetheless.

Draft-Memphis. Maybe I was thinking imperial porter but this just seemed a bit too light on the palate. Nose wasn’t as roasty as I would have expected...that being said, still a satisfying beer. I think it may be a victom of my preconceptions for the style it references.

Tap in Little Rock 2/21/07. I’m not familiar with this style so I cannot verify the authenticity of the style. Black color with a medium head. Server too cold. Alcohol taste. Gets thicker and tastier with warming.

Had this in Little Rock. First i would like to say (as i hoped i would add this) this is not a baltic porter. Poured 1 1/4 inch head that didnt laced and completely dimished. Aroma SOY, with bittersweet chocolate, some very mild roast, and a touch of alcohol. Maybe a little caramel. Taste is bittersweet cocoa, hint of coffee roast, caramel, maybe some dark fruit. Finishes in a salty mild bitter with alcohol not well hidden. Mouth is med. and somewhat smooth with a significant carb.
