COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Many people automatically assume that Stouts are full bodied, heavy beers. The Irish style, or dry stout, like Guinness, are anything but full and heavy. Full flavored but light bodied, Boscos Dry Stout is the perfect summertime stout for those looking for stout flavor but not wanting stout heaviness. O.G. 1055 I.B.U. 30

Draft. Very light aroma of chocolate and coffee. Very dark opaque brown. Extra dry taste with heavy coffee and sweet hop notes. I really enjoyed this with dinner.

Source: On cask at the Hillsborough Village location.
Glass: Poured into a tall pilsner type glass .
Appearance: Dark brown pour with a very thin tan head.
Aroma: Roasted malt and a hint of chocolate.
Flavor: Roasted malt with a hint of chocolate and a very dry finish.
Palate: Medium/full body with a creamy mouthfeel and soft carbonation.
Overall: Loved thin on cask. Not sure if it would be as good on a regular tap.

On tap at the Nashville brewpub. Pours very dark brown with a nice lasting tan head and good lacing. Aroma is like a better version of Guinness - roasty and chocolatey with burnt coffee notes. Roasty flavor with prominent dark chocolate and coffee. Tasty and balanced. Only slightly dry on the palate with medium-light body. This was my second favorite beer at Bosco’s after the Isle of Skye Scottish Ale. A great dry stout, very drinkable.

UPDATED: SEP 19, 2007 On tap, Nashville brewpub. Opaque brown with an Ovaltine foam head that leaves a thick film of lacing that "reminds" me of dehydrated chocolate milk (not that that even exists). Smells like the part of a brewery tour that takes you near the lauter tun and brew kettles (but softer), with a hint of malted milk powder. Nice creamy mouthfeel despite the low to medium body; the carbonation bubbles up into foam in your mouth, not at all prickly; a very good feel for this beer, and a great introduction for the lightly dry, firmly bitter and earthy finish. It’s pretty straightforward, but tasty. Lurking underneath the foamy intro is a little bit of semi-sweet chocolate. I like how delicate it seems. Not as dry or bitter as I like my dry stouts, but I like many enjoy over-the-top. This is decidedly not. Very enjoyable session style beer.

Draft at Nashville. Served too cold. Pours deep brown black with brown head. Faint aroma of chocolate and dark roast. Medium bodied with average carbonation and with a slight earthiness to the texture. Flavor of nuts, cocoa powder, and mild roast coffee countered by a balancing bitterness. The dryness is subtle on this one, but it works. The beer starts to veer a little off course on the finish, where there is a very very subtle but distracting off flavor, sort of like butter meets soap (which weakens as it gets toward room temp)
