On tap into small ale glass (maybe 8 oz.) at the Nashville brewpub, as part of their St. Patrick’s day festivities (3/2008). Dense tan lacing, head diminishes to a thick dusting. Smells rich, with carrob, dark tribal things, butterscotch, and maybe a touch of diacetyl. Definitely "imperial," this is much thicker and richer than anything I’ve ever had at Boscos. Flavor has deep malts tasting of prune and carrob chocolate. As I work through the glass, this starts to take on some raspberry character in the nose and in the mouth; it reminds me of Kuhnhenn Raspberry Eisbock, but not as full and rich--maybe more like Clare’s Thirsty. My girlfriend’s glass showed bing cherry notes in the smell and a bitter roast in the finish that mine didn’t have. They were certainly both imperials, but somehow they didn’t seem the same. In any event, this was easily the best beer I’d ever had at Boscos, and it would be awesome if they made it more often. I came back just a few days after and they were all out.

Draft-Memphis. Black brew with little head. Nose was a rich malt, butterscotch, and subtle coffee. Flavor was chocalatey and very smooth.
