Strong-style English Ale is a favorite of those who love intense beer flavors. Malty and hoppy with a hint of fruitiness, the elevated alcohol content is also noticeable in the flavor profile.

Draft at Lil Rock location. Copper brown with a tan head. Mild roasty nutty aroma. Medium body. Mild flavors of toasted caramel with light pit fruits. A little on the weak side overall.

Draft. Thick soapy head. Very dark brown color but great clarity. Heavy aroma of malt and spices. Heavy malt flavor with notes of coffee and slight alcohol warming. A pleasant yet heavy strong ale.

Draft-Memphis. Sweet Hops fill the nose and balance well with a malty, viscous brew. This was surprizingly refreshing for a beer of this gravity. THANK YOU HOPS!

Very good beer but their were flavors flying at you from all directions. The balance of malts and hops enlivened this beer as well.

On tap at Boscoís, Little Rock, Arkansas. Poured dark brown, with a nice tan head. Malty nose and flavor. Didnít strike me as particularly strong, but the flavor was OK. I had a sample glass and opted to go for anopther pint of their Hopgod IPA instead.

This is fundamentally an attempt at a 5% ABV barleywine. PA aroma, someplace between England and America, suggests an upstate NY hopping combo. Darkish brown-red, small spongy camel-colored head. Sweet, citrusy, woody, lightly astringent. Medium heavy body, wood-bitter finish with light sulphur. Very light diacetyl. Solid.

Tap. Ruby hued brown body with a thin gray brown head. Sweet brown sugar and plum nose with a bit of used up charcoal. A surprising balance of bitter to sweet here that I like. Herbal grass and a light citrus illuminate the caramel flavor. A nice English buttery flavor with the moist raisin taste. Chalky finish with a grape taste. A light chocolate permeates all aspects of this. A bit of chocolate orange here. An easy sipper Ap-4 ar-7 tast-7 pal-3 ov-15

(On tap) Memphis. Clear, reddish brown with an off-white head. Malty, lightly caramelish nose. Medium-bodied, lightly sweet with some sherry notes and lovely, roasted malt. And everything is perfectly balanced by some rather solid bittering hops. 280306

On tap, Nashville location. Iím guessing itís because Iíve been out of the game for a while, but this tasted like sweet sweet nectar to me (sweet being an unspecific superlative and not solely an indication of taste). Very well balanced malt and hop profiles. The malts were sugary (brown sugar especially) and lended a grainy texture to the palate, but I wouldnít say the beer was "sweet" in an artificial way, since the sweetness was leavened by the good medium-to-full body and a soft-but-stiff hop bitterness that was like amped-up noble hops with a bit of Cascade for complexity and acidity. The hops and malts combined to put a fruitiness (warm apple, maybe plums, both devoid of any "tang") underneath the carbonation and aforementioned flavors; I would say it was more than a "hint," and blended well with the overall melange of tastes. Finish wasnít that great; the fruitiness and grainy sugariness lingered, but not for long, and didnít add anything to the experience. I couldnít get much aroma from the pint glass, but what I did smell was kind of a toasty malt and a hint of the fruitiness, although both were vague. Transluscent ruby brown in the glass with darker blackish accents, grayish beige head was thin and oily, but left a bit of tracing on the side and had average "racing." Iím guessing this is up around 9%, because after three I was feeling it; the alcohol was completely masked in the mouth, however. One of the better Boscoís beers Iíve had in a while.
