A Mes rate. Cask at the Smithfield Hotel. Totally black with a thick creamy tan head. Fruity as hell. Full of blackcurrant and with a good dollop of chocolate malt as expected. Nice lick of alcohol. Creamy bitter finish with some late bitterness. Nice dry feel. Decent stuff.

Cask at Smithfield Hotel, Manchester. A black beer with a red shine under a brown head. The aroma has notes of malt and chocolate as well as lighter notes of roasted malt. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of milkchocolate, medium notes of malt, as well as lighter notes of cherries, cocoa powder, and roasted malt, leading to a dry and roasted finish where the chocolate note lingers. The body is just a bit light. I don’t fancy the chocolate.

Cask (handpump) @ Smithfield Hotel, 37 Swan St, Manchester, Greater Manchester England M4 5JZ.
Clear dark dark amber brown color with a average to large, frothy - creamy, good lacing, fully lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, chocolate, burnt notes, smoke notes. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. [20090123]

Cask at the Old Oak, Horsley Woodarse, Derby. A beer festival where I drank pints. Even my non-cask-beer-drinking-mucker drank pints of this. Just piles of steeped fruit and itching chocolate and and and. Chocolate Stout doesn’t get much better than this.
