Cask, gravity at Merton Winter Beer Festival 05-02-10 Pours black with a light beige head. Roasty notes on nose along with some coffee and bitter chocolate. Taste is more of the same but chocolate is quite bitter in the background, quite dry and very easy drinking tastes nothing like 8% If tasting blindfold I would have guessed 5% tops, little fruity tang half way through. Enjoyable stuff but not quite what I was expecting. A7 A4 F7 P3 Ov14 3.5

Cask conditioned at Merton Beer Winter Festival 2010. Black with cream head. Initially quite sweetish with a fruity, blackcurrant note, but then a charred coffee husk note works its way through. It finishes reasonably bitter, but never loses the fruitiness. Great stuff.

Cask Handpump at the Kelham Island Tavern, Sheffield 24/11/2007 Beige head. Coffee fruit hop and roast aromas. Black strong in alcohol and fruity with a rich and bitter coffee roast finish.

Cask In Various Places. Including *that* day at Barrow Hill with Mes and Sim and Ang etc. Deep breath.... it’s roast and toast and cream and dreamy peaty and sweetness and meaty chocolate and and and... Richard’s doing something right; Bottle Brook ought to remain as a flagship for dark beer and leave Leadmill to the hop smack. Awesome stuff.

A Mes rate: Gravicask at Rail Ale fest.
Almost black brown with a thin tan rim. Roasty, very earthy, dusty, thick and chewy. Nice sweetness from the alcohol which is quite clear but very tasty. Love the peaty notes, it really works. Excellent sweet and creamy yet dry and toasty finish. Very good stuff.

Cask gravity at London Drinker BF 08. Black with thin beige head. Slightly choccy, some heat from alcohol. OK, that’s an impy stout. That woke me up from a mid afternoon lull. A little lacking in fullness in the mouth. Lots of beautiful dark choc on finish. Somewhat bitter, but not harsh. The dark choc on the finish is excellent. Settle down into a very subtle impy stout with an almost liquid 70% cocoa dark choc. This gets better as you drink it. Lovely.

Cask, Derby Winter Fest 2008. Near black with a beige foam. Aromas are earthy roast coffee with some caramel. Dry with evident alcohol. Flavours are spicy hops and coffee with slightly gritty grain. Some sweet caramel. Warming alcohol on the finish. Decent.
