Light aroma hides the full palette of this for imperial red. I’m glad the bar tender gave me this to try. One of my new favorites!

UPDATED: APR 27, 2013 A deep rustic red pour with a nice floral scent. Gives a strong yet not overpowered bitter taste and a fresh finish for a imperial red

Nice aroma for a red, malty enjoyable no hops but this is a red. appearance is a thin head well filtered red. Taste in enjoyable malty thick. Good carobnation, easy on the tongue. I’ve had a few hight level reds... this beats most.

Strong, malty aroma has notes of caramel, cloves and horehound. Pours a dark translucent chestnut with a fairly thick light cinnamon-tan head. Rich flavor has a malty and woody hoppy core with notes of caramel and cloves and some hoppy bitterness. Smooth texture has a good amount of fizz and leaves a woody, somewhat bitter finish. Drink no evil indeed!

12oz bottle. Irregular head, mahogany color, laces well, translucent. I get much more malt than hops in the aroma, really appetizing. Strong taste, what you’d expect with the "imperial" title. I like this style of beer, and it’s done very well in this case.

Bottle. A dark rust color with a nice thick, long lasting head. Nose of figs and scotch. I taste some plum, toffee, and a warming alcoholic finish. Some spicy hops, but understated. It comes across as something like a light version of an English barleywine. I wouldn’t call it a red, but it is nice.

Bottle. A nice red when poured with a nice head. Has an aroma of caramel and whiskey. The taste is smooth with a nice blend of fruit, caramel, toffee, hops and overall a nice boozy burn. Completely shocked this is as tasty as it is, really didn’t expect much from this one! 7.5% abv.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours clear very dark reddish brown color with a 2 finger dense and rocky khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of caramel, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread, toasted biscuit, light chocolate/nuttiness/coffee, herbal, and floral/toasted earthiness. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop notes; with good strength. Taste of caramel, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread, toasted biscuit, light chocolate/nuttiness/coffee, herbal, and floral/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/spicy hop and roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread, toasted biscuit, light chocolate/nuttiness/coffee, and herbal/floral/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Lightly drying from roast/hop bitterness as well. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready, and slightly sticky/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice imperial red ale. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink. This is borderline on being a brown ale; but is still really tasty and enjoyable.

Bottle. Aroma has notes of caramel malts and earthy hops. Dark red hue with a large light tan head that mostly diminished and left good lace. Very sweet and lightly bitter flavor. Palate is heavy bodied and oily with average carbonation. Overall a very tasty brew.

Intriguing beer. Dark brown, very opaque. Smells quite sweet, like creme brulee or something. Taste is a little sweet and much roastier than I expected. A little creamy, and a hint of coffee, so it made me think of a latte. Not how I would expect an imperial red ale taste, but I like it.
