3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 OldMrCrow (1518) - Seattle, Washington, USA - AUG 11, 2006
UPDATED: AUG 13, 2006 Bottle sampled 8/2006.
Pours deep black with almost no head; the aroma brings up rich plums and chocolate, a hint of smoke and roast coffee. The flavor is rich, quite sweet on the front, strongly roasty, chocolate, plums again, lucious through the middle, hints of burnt coffee, bringing in a bitter hoppiness on the tail. Throughout the entire flavor, an abundant smokiness comes through with unusual vigor for an imperial stout; this flavor combination works wonderfully and adds an additional degree of interest to a beer that is already extremely strong all around.
Very nice now, but at the present time the beer is a bit sharp, a bit burnt, a bit bitter. With age, this could improve considerably. I hope can track down a few bottles to set aside for a couple of years.

Bomber. My nose suddenly succumbed to allergies, so I may be out of line posting aroma or even taste notes tonight. But the way this beer looks is undeniable, it’s a picture-perfect stout: golden-brown head about a finger thick, falling to lace. Jet black. The attack is bitter chocolate followed by plums and coffee, with a clean, dry bitter hop finish. Not earth-shatteringly new, but perfectly answers the craving for a great imperial stout.

Big coffeeground and chocolate. Herbal hops notes finish it off.
Medium to light body, mellow mouthfeel.
Dark chocolate lingers on in the aftertaste.

Bottle at 2006 Chromefest: Poured dark brown with a brown head. Mild milk chocolate and light coffee aroma. Slight chocolate in the taste along with a little coffee and smoke? Yes, smoke. I thought the smoke was abundant. Kind of odd but I still liked it.

Not the most pleasing Impy to me. Smokey chocolate, lots of hops--too much for my taste. Very frothy. Burnt hip chocolate aroma, with some metallic finish. Burnt hip centrl.

650 ml bottle. Pitch black beer thin dark brown head. Thick roasty aroma. Soy, some leather and salty licorice. Flavour is quite good though, thick salty, beef jerky and soy. Dark chocolate, heavy roastiness. Tarry finish and some lingering savoury notes. Earthy hoppiness and lingering bitterness and roast. Quite good.

Shared at the "2nd Richmond Gathering." Bottle art work bears a nice resemblance to the actual storefront in Seattle. Pitch black, decent head faded into a nice sheen. Coffee and mik chocolate aroma, with a faint hint of molasses. Flavor matched, with a hint of pepsin and yeast. Nice. Like Numenor said, more enjoyable than the numbers indicate.

Bottle courtesy of hopdog! Jet black body with a small tan head. Nose is dark chocolate, coffee notes, light dark fruit aromas, and soft alcohol notes. Taste is a bit more bitter with stronger coffee notes, dark fruits and some melon, sweet malts, chocolate, and caramel. Body is medium-full with light carbonation and some light stickiness. Finishes a bit sweeter with more caramel, sweet malts, chocolate, coffee, and fruits. Nice stuff!
