hiddenvariable (181), pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 20, 2008 2004 bottle, sampled in april, 2008. pours a beautiful clear amber with a few giant chunks of yeast floating around, and a ton of effervescence. the head is big, cream colored, and almost seems to grow over time, but it did eventually fade to a thick film, leaving a few sheets of lacing in its wake. smell is slightly fruity, with a decent plum note to it, but dominated by a caramel malt and a slight toasted bread note. the fruitiness comes out more in the taste, and there’s still some caramel/brown sugar there, but the taste seems dominated now by that toasted bread. it actually reminds me a lot of the toast i had with breakfast, but with, say, grape jam instead of marmalade. light bitterness in the end, with a very smooth lingering sweetness. no alcohol taste at all, but there is a touch of warmth. great creamy mouthfeel, velvety smooth, and a pretty full body. tons of carbonation, as evidenced by the fact that it’s still effervescing up through the glass. i’d like to drink this for breakfast! quite tasty, and i’d definitely drink it again if it was offered. but with so much great beer out there, i probably won’t really be looking for it again.
Dickinsonbeer (2480), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Jul 2, 2008 Bottle. Pours a medium amber with a fizzy carbonation and a short lived head in the glass. Aroma is oxidized a bit- some wet newspaper, light soy and some sherry - fruity with a hint of acetic acid. Yeasty doughy flavor with some caramel sweetness, more acetic acid and some wierd yeasty phenolics going on. Finish is a bit astringent and tart. Wierd stuff. kkearn (599), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA May 5, 2008 22oz bottle, bottled 2002. Pours translucent reddish orange with a small off white head. Aroma of green apple, white grape, and perhaps some cork. Flavor begins with toffee, apple, and fig, with some doughy yeast. Finishes with yeast and honey. patrick767 (1386), fort wayne, Indiana, USA Apr 12, 2008 2004 bottle - Yeast flakes swirl in this light amber brew with a big white head. It has a very fruity aroma. The flavor is sweet malt and dark fruits with a little alcohol coming through, especially in the finish. This medium bodied beer is very good and IMO is underrated here. There seem to be a few bad bottles floating around, but mine was fine. kapusta (65), Dover, Delaware, USA Mar 23, 2008 2004 bottle pours a cloudy reddish brown color with a thin off white head. Aroma is very sweet and fruity. Flavor is the same, ripe vinious fruits (cherries and raisens) and very sweet. Alcohol is well hidden. Very drinkable beer.
