Tallahassee, Fl - Fermentation Lounge - on tap. Medium copper colored pour, off-white head, sticky lacing. Earthy, wort-like aroma, hint of chocolate. Flavor has some kids cereal sweetness, hints of toffee, some milk chocolate, some roasted notes, back end nuttiness. Interesting. Thick mouthfeel.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 drowland (3883) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - NOV 6, 2011
11/6/11. On tap. Barely unclear amber red pour with a soapy khaki head that sticks. Huge hop aroma, showing cattiness, pine, and grass with a slight undertone of chocolate and caramel. Bold hoppy flavor as well - again catty and grassy - with lingering bitter malts and a hint of caramel. This is almost an IPA or something... eh.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 IrishBoy (3334) - Bakersfield, California, USA - OCT 27, 2011

GABF 2011. Pours clear tawny with a medium-small, frothy, light tan head, medium retention with light lacing. Aroma is malt (caramel, cookie, biscuit), alcohol, spicy hops, fruity esters and dates. Flavor is malty, nearly hot alcohol, lightly oxidized (more like an old ale), high hops, dates, and a dry finish. Full body, medium warmth and carbonation.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 RSRIZZO (1679) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - SEP 30, 2011
22oz bottle (Courtesy of Headbanger) - poured into a Snifter at 44°. Color is a deep ruby amber good carbonation and a thick tan head. Aroma is hops up front with a citrus/orange scent and a faint malt scent in the back. Full bodied but with a lighter crisp mouth feel. Flavor comes in hoppy, lots of citrus, then a bit of malt shows before this bitterness grabs at the sides of your tongue. In the after taste the citrus rises back up and hangs on. Overall its a tasty brew but for me it comes across more like an Imperial IPA than a Barley Wine, the hops just dominate this one.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Headbanger (2130) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - SEP 30, 2011
22oz bottle 9/30/11 (Davidson Liquors)-44° in Snifter-Pours a ruby red with a small off white head. Aroma of hops, malt, caramel, toffee, and slight citrus. Taste of hops, malt, caramel, toffee, and slight alcohol. This full bodied brew is not bad but a bit too hoppy for a Barleywine IMO.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 drjay44 (1731) - Salida, Colorado, USA - AUG 29, 2011
650 ml. bottle. Pours a medium, light beige lasting head with a bit of lacing, over a clear copper (SRM 15) body....nose is raisin, toffee/caramel, fig.....taste is sweet initially with heavy raisin, fig, toffee/caramel, leading to a balancing cleansing bitterness, which then becomes harsh and lingering.....mouth feel thick and sticky, alcohol hidden, carbonation low. This is obviously an American Barley Wine. It is unbalanced in the harshness of the lingering bitter finish, which negates some of the earlier more balanced flavors. It is possible to over do hops.
