Pours from tap pitch black with a thick foamy white head into a pint glass. Taste is rich in malts and alcohol. Moderate thickness. Really smooth but has a tiny bite in the aftertaste.

May 17th 2014 - Boulder Beerís 35th Anniversary beer is proud to announce itís birthday, donning the label jacket with a simple but powerful image of Boulderís nuzzling coziness to the front range, and the jutting, epic red rocks that guard the West. Itís a dark beer, but smooth looking, like a freshly dry cleaned tuxedo. The aroma is both hoppy and malty, with some licorice and anise, and then some evergreen smells, like pine and juniper, though steeped in alcohol. The flavor is also hoppy, though not totally bitter. Instead, thereís a strong, sharp, pointed hop note out front, with plenty of foam. Itís not an extravagant amount of carbonation, but it is definitely fully-foamed. The aftertaste is patterned after the rest of the flavor, with a one dimensional hit of hops, and a little supplementary work from alcohol, giving the sensation of cedar and pine. It improves considerable with warmth, where notes of chocolate and hazelnut are permitted to appear.

Not black, but a very dark brown. Medium bitter with a roasted quality and a little sweetness coming through. Thin to medium body.

Type: 22-oz. bottle Glass: Stone Ruination IPA pint glass From: Palm Springs Liquor in La Mesa (San Diego), Calif. Price: $2.99 (on sale from $7.99) Purchased: June 14, 2015 Consumed: June 17, 2015 Misc.: Enjoy by Oct. 3, 2014 Poured a black color with 3-to-4 fingers of khaki tan, rocky head. Settled nicely on the top after a few moments. Good amount of layered, foamy, spiderweb lacing on the sides of the glass. Very good retention. (Sight - 4.13) Smelled roasty malts, chocolate, nuts, Cascade, caramel and toffee. Still pretty good considering it was eight months after the enjoy by date. (Smell - 3.75) Tasted kind of close to the nose, getting smoky, roasty malts. Also Cascade, floral, chocolate, toffee and light Citra hops. Alcohol is well-hidden, but that could be the beer being eight months past due. (Taste - 3.50) Medium-to-full body. Oily-to-creamy texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt, smoky finish. (Feel - 3.75) Obviously I would have liked to have this fresh, but it wasnít that bad. Would like to have some more beers from Boulder Beer. (Overall - 3.63) 3.63 82 B

Aromas of vanilla, nougat, carbonation, citrus, herbs, pines, slight dark malts, slight chocolate. Appears brownish black with heavy lacing. Taste is pleasantly bitter with big citrus, lemon, vanilla, and candied caramel upfront. Mid palate brings tangerine, orange peel, candied fruits, honey and a unique almost oak-like note. Finishes very piney, hoppy, resinous and bitter with very slight chocolate, dark malt, slick dark malt syrup and toffee maltiness. Overall, very nice stuff. Really IPA forward. If I were blind tasting this Iíd say itís an IPA.

bomber with BIPA written all over it. For it being past itís prime, it really held up and can only assume the bitterness has weakened. Roast is dominated buy the grassy resin hop aroma. Strong to complex bitterness.

Bottle. Moderate to heavy dark bread and toasted for the malt, resin for the hops, light soap for the yeast, with notes of tar, pepper and licorice. Head is small, wispy, light beige with some spots of lacing and good legs, and is mostly diminishing. Color is dark brown with a red tint. Flavor starts lightly sweet and moderately acidic, then finishes lightly acidic and lightly to moderately bitter. Palate is on the fuller side of medium, slick with a lively carbonation and a lightly alcoholic finish. Great drinkability combined with a nice mix of Black IPA aromas in this beer.

22oz bottle: this one pours a very dark brown color, yet it is clear. A small tan head that leaves some lacing. Good nose. Some pine, herbal notes, a hint of chocolate and a whiff of alcohol. The taste is good. Big malt body, with just a small underlying sweetness. A pretty fair amount of hops to balance the malts. A touch bitter. Some roasted malts, chocolate, herbal flavors. Some grains and citrus. This is good!

[Bottle] Jet black pour with a dense brown foam on top. Nose is heavy on charred malts, anise and pine sap. Roasted grains, pine resin, grapefruit, tobacco, ashy wood, chocolate and mild coffee flavors. Alcohol is noticeable. Quite dry overall. Heavy body. A good sipper. Tasting notes from Big Blue Craft Beer Festival in Sheboygan on 10/18/14.

Location: 22 oz bottle from State Line, 2/2/15

Aroma: The nose is a roast/coffee malts, un-sweet chocolate, with some earthy hops, and a pine
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a frothy light brown head and heavy lace
Flavor: The flavor is along the same lines, roasty, not very sweet, and with a good bitterness
Palate: The body is medium-plus, fairly smooth, with a carbonation, and a dry finish
Overall Impression: This is a pretty solid one. Iím thinking the hops may have been a hint past their prime, but still itís a solid beer. I liked the balance, and it drinks nicely.
