Pours from tap pitch black with a thick foamy white head into a pint glass. Taste is rich in malts and alcohol. Moderate thickness. Really smooth but has a tiny bite in the aftertaste.

Bottle. Annoying wax, points off. Aroma of light roast and pine. Taste is bright bitter cocoa. OK.

Listed as a double on the menu. Nice black pour with a thick moose head. Strong impy stout flavors fer sure. Warming sensation. Yes, quite difficult Practically flat. Not impressed, but Iím not impressed by the majority of impy stouts, go figger.

Have I mentioned how much I hate wax dipped caps? Because I hate wax dipped caps. That said, I did enjoy this beer. Smelled hoppy, with notes of coffee. Taste was kind of the opposite of the aroma - more coffee flavors, mixed with a bit of hops. Pretty tasty, actually.

bottle, from the Beer Dispensary Apex. ok aroma, smoke, nutty, coffee, bit hot with the abc. dark orangy brown color, good head and lace. bitter sweet flavor. full body, creamy thick mouthfeel, bitter finish with a abv bite on finish. Itís ok, not as IPAish and it is porterish. appearnace was the best part, just not coming together for me. for 9.6% it drinks thin, yet has a hot streak about it. Just ok

Bomber from Whole Foods Charlottesville, opened 6/1/14. Pours a clear very dark brown color with a medium sized creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of chocolate, roast. nutty notes, earthy, resin, dank hops. The taste is citrus, earthy hops, chocolate, roast. Thin-medium bodied, slight lingering bitterness, decent balance.

Draft at the brewery\brewpub in boulder. Very cool spot . Deep black color with a thin head that fades. Slightly hoppy but more malty and porterish like

Donít think of this so much as a Black IPA, but rather a solid porter with a nice hop profile. Coffee gets you in the nose and flavor. The roasted malt is the star of this brew. Bitterness is there, but not getting any typical hoppy aromas.

Drought. Dark brown with reddish tint, beige creamy head, slight roasted malt aroma, low carbonation, caramel and hops prominent in taste with alcohol aftertaste, medium finish. The alcohol kicks in a bit later than the first taste. Quite nice.

Bottle. Yes, itís black, with a fairly normal-looking appeal. The aroma is of a nice porter, with a little lighter-in-the-pants hoppiness. This is quite active on the palate, with a nice meaty porter lurking in the background, but on the surface, and if I closed my eyes, a interestingly jovial light hoppy ale. Not a fan of the "black IPA" craze, but this is among the better ones Iíve encountered. (#5610, 8/7/2014)
