COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A swarm of flavor and a stinger at 11.5% ABV. The French saison yeast produces big, estery, phenolic aromas and flavors, while the wildflower honey from Madhava Natural Sweeteners in Longmont CO lends a spicy, sweet aroma with essence of dried fruits. Champagne yeast is also used to complete fermentation and create a dry finish, and a strong malt bill imparts a rich, golden honey color to the ale.

Pours a light amber color with a moderate head. Nose is both sweet and sour, which is a bit odd. The honey comes through in both the taste and nose, but the sourness of the style dominates. Finishes with a bit of a bite

Had the bomber. Aroma was of pretty decent Belgian yeast. It didn’t taste so much like a Saison though, but not in a bad way. The honey was present enough on the back end, and went down smooth considering the 11.5 ABV Not the barnyard funky style Saison that I love, but very good in it’s own right. Will definitely buy again.

Glad to have tasted this before buying the big bottle. It’s pretty straight forward, a spicy saison with a touch of sweet honey flavor. I picked up a little fruitiness on the finish. The appearance was a typical golden glow, but I was pleasantly surprised with a little thicker feel to it.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, 2012 vintage. Pours lightly hazy deep orange copper color with a 2 finger dense cream colored head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of orange, pear, apple, grape, caramel, honey, light pepper, bread, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity esters with malt sweetness; and good strength. Taste of orange, orange rind, pear, apple, grape, caramel, honey, floral, bread, clove, light pepper, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of citrus, light fruits, caramel, honey, bread, herbal, floral, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Nice balance and complexity of malt and fruity ester flavors; with no cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a slick and lightly syrupy mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with only a light warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a nice imperial saison. Nice balance and complexity of yeast ester and malt flavors; with quite smooth to sip on. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Cloudy amber color. Melon rind and Carmel scents. It has a thick body sweet an the start then turns a bit funky then fades away nicely leaving a light yeasty but moist palate.

Big bottle at HV condo. Poured honey color. Medium light size head. Nice aroma of honey, Belgium candy, cherry, other dark fruit, Belgium yeast. Medium sweetness. Medium body at least. Some slight fruit tartness. Pretty darn nice. Some spice at finish. Enjoyed.

Bomber from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours hazy copper with a frothy white head. Aroma of dark honey and floral. With sour barnyard after. Full bodied. Flavor is honey, dark fruit, fruity esters. Very strong flavors. The dark fruit grabs my mouth - like bitter. This is quite dry. As astringent aspects. Lots of malt, but something balances that. Woot!

On tap at Bigby’s in Addison, IL., and sampled in a small flute with an orangy/golden color and modest, white head foam. The nose was extremely honey sweet, with a touch of yeastiness, spice, fruitiness, but a distracting, earthy, green olive scent. The flavor was similar, maybe less the olive, with the esters as apple & pear, with the skins. Haven’t had a Boulder offering in awhile, and was hoping for more pleasantries. Not a fan of this one.

Hazy copper red color with a rocky beige head. Excellent lace. Tropical fruit malt aroma with notes of bubblegum and fresh baked cinnamon rolls. Flavor is sweet fruity malt with obvious high alcohol flavor. I read the reviews on this and most were not favorable. I think this is not very Saison-like but yet it has a unique, complex sweet malt flavor that deserves a try. More like a strong Belgian style ale with a huge dose of honey thrown in. Could have used some more hops to help balance out the overly sweet high octane alcohol flavor.

Blah. While not undrinkable, this is a sweet cloying mess. Aroma was actually good. Strong yeast, lemon and honey aromas. Very thick. Pour was a murky dark gold with a one finger white head. Taste was rough. Overly sweet and alcoholic. Yeast and honey are huge with slight notes of lemongrass and pear. Very thick, alcoholic and almost a chore to finish. Not sure how Boulder Beer considers this a saison, but to each his own
