Draft. Pours near black with a beige head. Bourbony and roasty aroma with sweet molasses notes. The flavor is bourbony sweet with roasted malts, sweet molasses, coffee, and a hint of anise. Good stuff.

Tap @ Vine Street Pub, Denver. Pours dark reddish brown with a small creamy tan head. Aroma of oak, bourbon, raisins, vanilla, toffee, filled dark chocolate. Taste is oak, lots of bourbon, riasins, vanilla, toffee, nice filled dark chocolate. Medium body, nice quite high level of carbonation, for a barrel aged beer, lasting sweet bourbon finish. 280212

Tap @ Vine Street. Buffalo Trace barrels. Black appearance with a brown head. Oaty, light oaky, dark roasty, chocolate malty aroma. Sharp boozy whiskey, somewhat oaky, a little thin, oaty/chocolate flavor with a boozy finish. The whiskey was not integrated all that well into this beer.

Much closer to an oatmeal stout than an imperial for me. Pretty std. sweet stout - nose of roasted, toasted malt, chocolate, molasses. Very oily palate, nice mouthfeel. Taste has a bit of oak, a tad of bourbon, not much, well balanced, very decently done. Appearance is great, black, tan head.

On Tap at MacGregor’s. Dark pour with a small tan head. Aroma of Bourbon and sweet chocolate. Flavor has the Bourbon up front too much when I was expecting the stout flavor 1st. Some sweetness and the stout body is decent. The bourbon takes some getting used to, but after awhile you don’t mind it anymore.

Tap at Rattle. Pours dark brown with a bit of light brown head. Nice roasty aroma with some oatmeal and chocolate. Dry and oaky with some tannins from the oak, a bit boozy with a bit of a bite from the bourbon. Finish has a light bitterness with hints of vanilla and roast. I was a big fan of the normal Obovoid, so I was pretty excited for this one, and while it was very solid, I have to admit I was a bit disappointed. I felt like the bourbon took away from the beer more than it added.

UPDATED: MAY 30, 2011 Description: Boulder Bourbon Obovoid - 8%abv, Brewed with an abundance of black and chocolate malts then aged on oak to add an earthy character. Obovoid is a rich, smooth stout with a creamy, off-white head. One of only 5 barrels in existence! Had on tap at the armsby abbey stoutfest, very bourbony, delicious, sweet, malted flavors, very strong bourbon flavors!
