alaskanwarren (271), Edgewater, Colorado, USA Aug 4, 2007 Pours dark golden with a thick foamy head. Aroma is earthy, fresh, decent amount of malt and floral hops. Flavors are light citrus, sweet caramel, biscuit, bit of metallic, grapefruit on the back end. Still a hint of spiciness and some pine. Finish is the grapefruit more than anything else, fairly dry. It’s a nice take on blending the American and British IPA styles. I certainly wouldn’t call this an english strong. Feels too light on the body, not getting any esters or alcohol notes.
Lt_Dan (21), Greater Los Angeles Area, California, USA Aug 20, 2008 As the great reviewer Randy Jackson said "I’m not feelin it dawg." Had no head, had little aroma, and the taste was of lemon and grains. Not sure if I got an off bottle, but as it stands, I’d pass on the next one. Beershine (1207), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Aug 20, 2008 Hazy dark orange-burnt sienna with rich creamy beige head and particulates in the glass. Smells like cold rocks after a rainstorm. Orchard fruits--ripe apple and pear. Flowers. Smells very American. Great silky palate, quaffable. Mellow, smooth, nice hop but not a lot of Brit references in the malt or hop. Malts are slightly metallic and apple-like. Hops are well-integrated. Not as English as it professes to be but refreshing and good. Oakes (6819), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Aug 18, 2008 Amber, cloudy, with a loose head. Earthy nose with light citrus. Earthy taste, again with c-hop woodiness. Light, refreshing. Some light toast, caramel. Quite clean, finishing dry. Not bad, definitely not English, but a tasty brew. esjaygee (721), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA Aug 17, 2008 Cloudy orange with a thin off-white head, quickly dissipating. Aroma of citrus, bread, sweet malts and floral hops. Taste of floral hops, fruit, caramel, citrus and vegetal notes. Body is grainy and oily. Ungstrup (11031), Frederiksberg, Denmark Aug 13, 2008 Draft at the brewpub. A hazy amber beer with a thin white head. The aroma is sweet matly with notes of caremel as well as light notes of fruit. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of caramel and alcohol, leading to a dry bitter finish. NW and NZ hops and 6.5% ABV in an English Style ale - I don’t get it.
